finds from my 2nd weekend at the same house

Here is a video of my 2nd weekend at that same house. I actually hit it Saturday and Sunday, but Saturday only yielded two coins so I decided to put the clips together. Oh yeah, my camcorder was dead on Saturday, so I had to video using my phone. This video includes my first attempt at a live dig. Feedback is welcome, particularly in regards to shooting pictures of coins after they are cleaned up. I think I need to try and use natural light?

Great Video and Great Hunts! I love those Indians, they turned out really nice. Congrats on the silver Washington it was awesome to see it on the live dig! I have often wondered if someone could detect from a motorized chair, I am glad to see you are doing it and doing it well! Keep at it and keep making the videos, it has been a lot of fun to watch!

Great Finds Dave! I'm down here south of Topeka, Kansas 30 miles. Just learning the Etrac. Been hunting an 1880's house, seems the top 4" have been hunted, but the Etrac really goes deep. Found a Barber at 9" and an Indian at 8". Trying to detect the sidewalk area but Etrac keeps nulling out. Running Andy S pattern, conductive, trash high, recovery fast, Ground difficult. Pictured is what I've found in the yard, 4 hours work. Barber, Merc, 2 Indians, 3 wheats and some clad. Oh and not pictured and the best find is a big copper dog tag from 1962 from our town!

Any suggestions? Perhaps 2 tone Ferrous? Thanks, Rick

Sounds to me like you are doing it all right. Some sidewalks have rebar in them, and that just sucks. You could try a smaller coil, but you still probably won't get all the way up to it. TTF is really great if there is a lot of trash. Otherwise, just swing really slow and dig everything. Congrats on some great keepers.

The older sidewalks in our town are slate, kind of a big flat flaky looking grey sheet of rock. Thats a sure indication of 1880, as thats when the slate was mined around here. Thanks for the comment, I'll play around with settings and see what I can do. Rick

wow, now I am impressed that your hunting from a motorized chair!!!! NICE full dig!!! congrats on all those indians. I have to ask how do you swing the etrac while sitting down, do you swing while going forward with the chair or stop and swing and move etc.....

My right arm is completely paralyzed, so everything is done one-handed. The "arm rest" of the E-Trac is so long, I can't swing it while sitting up. I lean over the side, swing over the area I can reach, lay the metal detector down, move forward, then pick it up and swing. It is a very slow process, but it works for me, I just don't cover much area very fast. Leaning over also helps me get the coil far enough away from my chair that the electronics don't interfere with the metal detector. The main problem is that people are constantly stopping and asking if I need help. Usually I just say, "Sure, if you can handle a shovel!"

great finds and video how do you get your Indians so clean, Years ago workers in bars n such used to paint there change so they could retrieve it back from jukeboxes

All I do to clean my Indian head pennies is put a little baking soda and water on them and rub them with my fingers. I then use a toothpick to get any of the dirt in the cracks. We are lucky that a lot of the yards in our area have never had fertilizer put on them. I just wish we were old enough to have large cents in this area.

I totally agree. I know the guys up around Omaha have found several, but out in the rural areas its so much less of a chance, when most of the population didn't start settling an area 'til the early 1880's.

I really enjoyed the video and congratulations on the finds. Did you ever make it up to Beatrice??/

Take care,

NebTrac

You are an inspiration. Thanks for letting us into your world. Keep up the great video's. :beers:

My Friend...I have been thinking about selling the detector and equipment and getting out of detecting because of my back and elbow hurting after each hunt, but after seeing and reading this, it puts a whole new light on disabilities...I think I will stick with it and just remember there are others out there with far worse pains and disabilities than mine...I am truly inspired by your technique and patience my friend. Others in your situation would quickly give up I think...Keep at it, and Good Hunting to you! :detecting: and NEVER :surrender:

HH,

Very nice hunting. I loved the live dig. I was very curious how you do it. Now I know. Great video and thank you for sharing.
