finds from last Sunday

My detectin' buddy and I were invited to hunt around an old home that dates back to 1825.
The finds shown were found in the yard, but over the years we were told that the yard was much larger than it is now.
The only problem is that the surrounding area is high grass and we will probably go back later in the year to try hunting
other areas around the house.
However, our hunt around the home looks very promising.
We found some modern coins as usual, what I believe is a shoe buckle, and watch fob, and a large button. If my ID is incorrect, please correct me on this.
Only two wheat pennies were found so far.
Also pictured (although hard to tell) is a large cent with a hole or slot in it.
It was very corroded and hardly any detail left on it except for some of the wreath and the 1/100 mark on the back of the coin.
From my research, that mark does not appear on large cents after 1807 so it is at least that old.
I'm guessing somewhere between 1796 and 1807 for the date but no way to get it closer than that as of now.

Thanks for looking,
Felix

hi fw. it looks like a good spot. it's too bad about the large cent, i find them corroded a lot too. it seems hard to find one in decent shape anymore. nice finds and a good variety so far. i think it would be a good idea to wait until they cut the grass and hit it again! ain't no telling what you'll find there. looks like you got a nice post colonial buckle and button too. good luck, and hh,

Good finds, Felix! Perhaps there's another large cent waiting in there for you.

On the one you have, you may have already tried it. But very gently rub a bit of talcum powder over the surface to highlight any remaining detail. Perhaps a date can be recovered this way.

Best of luck out there at the site!

Richard

Looks like you have a pretty good site Felix. Hit it hard and pull some more old coins from it! I hope you find some silver!
