Got out and done a little diggin' yesterday and managed to save a few more relix. I ended up with two Gardner's, one Enfield, four .69 cal. musket balls, six smaller musket balls, a small buckle( may be modern?) and two Burnside casings. Thanks for looking and HH!!

Here's a dirty picture..........

Nice finds, Scott. Any artillery action nearby? Wondering if some of your RBs are not case shot? Dave

Official Records the N.C. regiment guarding the R.R.bridge, R.R. and the telegraph lines were very poorly equipped that they didn't have enough weapons for the men and barely any ammo to drill with and had smooth bores until later on in the war. One area by the bridge that had been burnt down more than once through the war years gave up 72 of these dropped round balls to me of the .69 cal. size and only around 22 Gardner drops. Some more of the roundballs I found there have been carved, chewed and melted. It's hard to tell how many come from this ridge previously as it had been hunted by many many people before I got permission to hunt it. My friends probably carried out another 50 or so of them.

Scott: Guess that tells the tale. Case isn't chewed or carved. Thanks for the insight. Dave
