Finds for the evening...

JimmyCT

Well-known member
This evening I found my first kennedy(non-silver) half dollar, a 1939 wheat penny, a religious statue ( registered 180 ) that is pretty heavy for its size, some unidentified object (hit 177 on my meter) and a bunch of clad.

Interesting finds there Jim!!
How tall is the statue and what kind of material is it made of ?
That other object looks like some kind of button to me.
Keep it up,
Felix

The statue looks great..........nice find.

If its made of bronze it may be a very nice piece.

Thanks Felix. The statue stands approx 3 5/8" . As for material I am still un-sure. cast Steel? All that I know as it literally blew my headphones off lol At first I was thinking soda can as I had my coil 6 - 8 inches off the ground and I was still detecting it loud and clear. It was a "rough" almost like a grunting high pitch sound. Obviously now I know why. I don't believe that other item was a button. No where is there a shank or even where one would of been attached. It is very thin and would bend rather easy. HH - Jim

Thanks BeachBat.

I don't see that it is bronze. I think it is made of cast steel.

you have found a gene, you have tree wishes, ha ,ha and you left a nice birth mark on the half good thing it was not silver you must have some hard ground ,

The Kennedy Half is dated 1997. Funny thing I was at this park for two hours and not much in my bag to write home about. (bits of wire, pulltabs)Then that inner voice was telling me," go over to where you found the 1917 penny" So I headed on over and when I got to the top of the hill I hit the half dollar and all the other change you see. Moral of the story: listen to what the inner voice is telling you. Then I found the unidentified piece and then the little statue. I believe why I am finding things in this area is no one thinks that coins and other items could be lost near a bunch of trees and rocks. ( these oak trees are massive ) There is a steep hill at this section of the park that goes right down to the roadway that I truly believe people don't want to climb down. However, this is where I found the 1917 penny, statue and some clad. Happy dirt fishing! EPL aka Jim

EPSL, nice finds, what year is your Kennedy? HH Ron

You noticed that birth mark huh? Actually the ground is semi-hard. Lets just put it this way, compared to "asphalt" park where the ground is hard as a "asphalt" the digging in this place is a "walk in the park" lol literally.

say youg man , you found that stuff at the top of a hill ????? nice place to sit and look at the view? and be romantic humm that probly why I found my best ever coin find at the top of a hill over looking a lake a walking half a standing liberty quarter and two mercs and i was using an bouty hunter 150 back in the 70s

Cool stuff. I wonder if the statue is diecast. That metal always reads 180 on my GT. I really like the statue, the unknown coin, and everything else. Mark

Well, at this end of the park, there is a small hill. However there is not too much to look at but a bunch of late 19th & early 20th century homes.

I cleaned off an area with steel wool and maxwedge it looks like you are right on it being diecast. I wonder how old this thing is. Anyone have an ideas? I am guessing 1970's
