Findpoint GPS not always up?

Is it normal when setting a findpoint for the GPS not to be locked? This is if you set a findpoint without setting recording on beforehand.
I am in SoCA and it rarely works the first time.

Not fully understanding your question. Are you giving the detector time to find and lock in the satellites before trying to mark a spot? Or are you just turning on the GPS and trying to immediately mark a spot?

GPS is enabled - it took forever to finally work when I first enabled it. I think putting it in Enhanced mode made it work but I'm not sure.

In my usecase I did not start track recording, instead I just walked around a local small park and tried to create Findpoints for finds as I walked around it.
Sometimes it went right into the Findpoint store menu and worked fine- but other times it said it wasn't locked on and did not store. I then press the world button and see the GPS icon in the compass symbol blinking like I guess it is still trying to get a fix. I play around with the store button several times and finally it stores. I would expect the GPS to be stable unless I'm in a canyon or something... Not sure it's working well.

My GPS will set a find point whether I start a geohunt or not. But I seem to have plenty of times where I get a message when creating a find point saying gps not available or something to that effect. So I just try again until it picks up the signal. Not sure why this happens as much as it does, but I wrote it off to our Oregon cloud cover. GL.
