This weekend couldn't have been better. The weather was great and putting a face to the ID's of some of you who post here was even better. It was great hunting with all of you guys and we pulled a lot of silver out of the "hunted out" grounds of the Forest Park area. More importantly however was the meeting of many new friends for me. GOLDDIGGER again called me a bad name because as he was digging up a nail...I strolled accross the grass and plopped an 1856 Seated half dime in his hand which I just dug up. My eyes are getting bad so I wasn't exactly sure what it was as I hardly ever wear my glasses..but I knew it looked like a seated or barber. I asked him if it was a seated and he said "it's another halff dime you bast$#@@*"
Believe it or not I found this one about 15 feet from where I found my first one (1841) a couple of months ago. This one was about 5" to 6" down and there was a bent nail within 1" from it. I hit this exact spot thoroughly when I found my first half dime but obviously walked right over it because of the trash. Hey guys...we are liking those small coils aren't we?
Anyway the weekend was great and Mike and GOLDDIGGER provided us with some very useful tips and info. I ended up with 6 silver and 25 wheaties ...all which came from pounded areas and my total 2 day hunt time was about 7 hours at best.
It was really neat when a bunch of us were at one park and there was a really trashy area..the worst I have ever personally hunted in. I was finding these silver dimes directly underneath a pulltab or nail. One of the mercs was 6" to 7" down directly between a broken round pulltab and a piece of can slaw. It just amazed me. I remember digging the merc and yelling at GOLDDIGGER and saying "this is crazy". ..."this stuff is directly in between trash". He replied..."that's why it's still in the ground". Well...thank you trash! Because of you my little 6" Excelerator is sniffed out a lot of goodies.
Again thank you to all of you who attended. I feel honored to have met you and hunted alongside of you.
