Finding Gold Jewelry

COINHAWKER

New member
I have been having a hard time finding gold in the last several years, and it seems other people are to. Is there a good reason for this. I still see people wearing it in the water. [/b]

There are a lot more people out whit metal detectors then ever before, more detectors less there is to find

A lot of folks are wearing Tungsten, Stainless steel, Titanium and other junk rings. I have a nice collection of them. I have only found two small gold rings this year.

Thanks for your comments. In my area I don't see more people detecting in the salt water, I see less, even on the beaches. I know there were more people in the water detecting say 5 or 6 years ago. I wonder why people are wearing more junk jewelry now? Is it because of the price of gold? I do see people still wearing what appears to be gold in the water. Finding gold and even silver in the water has definitely changed since 5 or 6 years ago. Any thoughts on this?

We all have been there before... Same subject........HAVE YOU NOTICED THE LACK OF FINDS:cry: from 2014

Finding the gold & silver has a lot to do with the amount of time you get to hunt and the numbers of people at your beaches and in the water.
This summer has been no better or worse than last for me as far as finds go, but bad weather like tropical storms and hurricanes do cut into it.....we have been lucky this year so far with only one TS so far.
Going back 5 years, I do notice more Mders now a days, but they come and go and are not as regular/persistent as the ones I have gotten to know and see out hunting year after year.
Around here, when the Gulf is calm and flat for a couple weeks or more like it was for a lot of July, hunts can be hard times especially with other MDers hitting the same areas day after day. But once we get a little wave action to churn up the bottom and push people around, things get back to normal as far as older and fresher finds go.
I have several great beaches with lots of hotels, summer vacation condos and large public beach parks that during the summer, keep a constant supply of depositors out there. If you can get out more often than just the weekends, you will find lost jewelry, it just takes being able to put in the time. I know many hunters ( retired/semi retired) that hunt the waters 4 to 5 times a week for 5 to 7 hours at a time if not more.....You can't help but score when you can put this much time into it and spend that much time out there. You also get to notice the changes in the beach, as well as where the people spend most of there time when in the water if you're out there that often.
For me, a lot has to do with the tide and surf conditions during a week that help me determine where I am going to detect and how much time I'm going to hunt at a particular beach. High tide, low tide, no waves, big waves, all place beach goers in certain areas of the water during that week and knowing that info is more an advantage than just going out and hunting at low tide like many hunters do.

All this is true, I have been hitting the same beach 3 to 4 times a week, year round for almost 5 years. I am getting more than ever. A few do better, but most do not. Let's face it, getting gold is the most challenging and rewarding to detect. How many rings have we walked over and missed or dismissed as trash? Far more than we recover, Idon't care who you are! Skill and proper equipment are critical, but it's darned illusive!

I've got alot more junk rings than gold/silver, have found 10 silvers n 5 gold this year, have found 25 of the SS, tungsten and other junk rings....HH

Gold is in the pull-tab range on my machine. If I don't dig every target I'll miss one.People are also poorer than they have been. Nobody's buying gold anymore. People here dont wear bling. Unless its tyedyed.

Finding gold is great but getting out and looking is even better. To have the $ for a detector and car and gas along with the time and health to enjoy the outdoors is a blessing. But to be honest my first trip out I found gold and was HOOKED, I am also rather simple and am happy when I find a coin (Not as much as gold) in the scoop after 6 years.

A Big Amen to that...

At 75 years of age I could not agree more. I can still get out and swing the coil for a number of hours. The Gold and Silver and other valuable items are just an added incentive to get our and swing the coil. Any day that I find enough clad to cover the cost of gas is a good day in my book.

Ah the glory days!

2008-2011 were my peak gold years. Of course I'm talking tot lots. No beaches here in southwest Kansas. I swear the teachers have started to demand the kids remove all jewelry before going to play. In reality I think I had never hunted for gold in tot lots until 2008 and it just took me 4 years to clean out all that old stuff.

Don't disregard tungsten ring some of those are worth bucks make sure you check them before passing judgement on them.

Behavior has really changed the past 20 yrs. People who once bought nice jewelry now spend much of that cash on" body art". I don't think they swim as much. Many just lie on the beach with their phones and text their friends. Junk jewelry has gotten very popular and I don't know why. Very nice silver rings could be bought at the same price. More hunters for sure, new hunters love finding those coins on the beach. Going to the beach was once a big deal, now we have waterparks everywhere and most are packed. Yes, things have really changed. (on my beaches anyway)
