Finding the gold & silver has a lot to do with the amount of time you get to hunt and the numbers of people at your beaches and in the water.
This summer has been no better or worse than last for me as far as finds go, but bad weather like tropical storms and hurricanes do cut into it.....we have been lucky this year so far with only one TS so far.
Going back 5 years, I do notice more Mders now a days, but they come and go and are not as regular/persistent as the ones I have gotten to know and see out hunting year after year.
Around here, when the Gulf is calm and flat for a couple weeks or more like it was for a lot of July, hunts can be hard times especially with other MDers hitting the same areas day after day. But once we get a little wave action to churn up the bottom and push people around, things get back to normal as far as older and fresher finds go.
I have several great beaches with lots of hotels, summer vacation condos and large public beach parks that during the summer, keep a constant supply of depositors out there. If you can get out more often than just the weekends, you will find lost jewelry, it just takes being able to put in the time. I know many hunters ( retired/semi retired) that hunt the waters 4 to 5 times a week for 5 to 7 hours at a time if not more.....You can't help but score when you can put this much time into it and spend that much time out there. You also get to notice the changes in the beach, as well as where the people spend most of there time when in the water if you're out there that often.
For me, a lot has to do with the tide and surf conditions during a week that help me determine where I am going to detect and how much time I'm going to hunt at a particular beach. High tide, low tide, no waves, big waves, all place beach goers in certain areas of the water during that week and knowing that info is more an advantage than just going out and hunting at low tide like many hunters do.
