Hi

I was wondering if anyone can help me. This item was found detecting in Cornwall. It isn't much bigger than a one pence piece. The metal appears to be gold plated.
The picture appears to be etched on glass. I've looked online and can't seem to find anything similar.
Does anyone know what it is and the date?

Many Thanks
Kylie

That is a very small and yet a very finely done piece. I have seen miniature paintings on brooches and small old hand painted silhouettes which command high prices but I have never seen that small of an etched glass piece before. The painted and silhouette miniatures are usually done for an important or titled person and if they are not repro: usually worth money but if it's just plated, I would guess it's not a valuable piece but I would show it to some antique dealers and see what they say. In any case, it's a very nice find:thumbup:

I have nothing to add to what Goldie stated...very interesting find! :beers:

It looks quite old..take it round to the next Danbury Detecting Club meeting and see what they have to say? We are watching their exploits on bbc 4 'detectorists' show...They are looking for new members...

Hi there, I think you might have something their. Handle it with care. Someone will pop in here and help you. Very nice find... KEN

Looks like a seal matrix. Does it have low relief? If it does it is a seal matrix, now go out and find the fob that belongs to it. These where used to mark sealing wax on letters years ago.

Try googling "Georgian fob seal matrix."
