My "relic" has been identified as a rosette by a poster on another forum. Thanks to Google, I found a similar piece for sale at a Civil War Relics shop. Needless to say--I am thrilled with my discovery. I'm curious if there is anyone who could restore (straighten), this piece. It will be a gift to a local historical society.

There is a website of a man that repairs relics. http://hallowedgroundrestorations.blogspot.com
Do you hunt K&Q county often?

I found this item in Jasper County SC--about 30 miles from where I live. The Virginia piece was advertised @ $295.00 through an on-line relic shop. Thanks for the lead on the repair shop.

Cool find! There is also a guy in Waterloo Alabama named Robert McDaniel who does restoration work. He is an expert at identifying relics and restoration. PM me if your interested....HH

Great. Never seen one like it.
