I went back home for a few days for a family reunion of sorts. On the way back here I always like to stop at a few places I would not get to detect on my usual rounds. The coins at the top of photo 1 are from my old junior high so I suppose it is possible I lost one of them back when I was a lad. It was a quick hunt and I only went out to get away from the mayhem for a little while. Just over half an hour which makes me think I must go back some day.
Yesterday I was on the road and stopped at a very old site that has always produced old coins. It was not the day for that site it seems. After 2 hours I took a break and had the George VI penny, the old button, the old buckle, and 80 coins. Only 6 quarters in that mess too. My Pro Pointer was messing up big time and I think I'll have to send it in for repair. All in all it wasn't a good hunt. It was dusk when I reached site 2. Another old site. I only had around half an hour to detect. The coins were flying out of the ground and there were a lot of quarters. I almost opted to cherry pick only quarters only because I couldn't see very well in the low light. Glad I didn't. Found a wheat and then decided a small loop around the lawn and then home. First target on the loop was a VDI 55, very steady signal. I groaned not another pull tab. It turned out to be a 10K ring! I'd say it's a thumb ring and it slipped right onto my finger as I reached into the hole. I love it when that happens! Lots of gold found by a lot of you guys lately and I'm glad I could finally keep up my end. First gold with AT Pro and first gold in 2011. I normally have a mess of it by July. Two targets later I found the other ring which is 925 and has a small, cheap, ruby. I should have cleaned it before the photo but I do like a little dirt on my finds, and under my fingernails! A mediocre day turned out pretty spiffy! I went about half an hour more and got quite a few coins although I couldn't see anything by then and was literally hunting blind. I do wish they had put a back light on the AT Pro.
Is that a big token, or what?
