Got out to hunt a little today.I did find a few spots to hunt that didnt have any snow. the ground was thawed out enough to dig, I think i found a small picket post. i had hunted the property previously but never in this area.it was a suprise to find the little bat wing and sharps, they were the only military items that i have found here. But it is one of those places that attract every relic hunters eye.
Does anyone know if the slide adjuster, and the batwing go to the same belt?
hope everyone gets out and finds there FIND..............Ed

The slide adjuster is from a 4-piece 1851 Riflemans buckle.. It had one on each side of a male and female piece..

You are correct in that there are 2 of these on that belt, however the small loop at the top connects to the straps on the backpack, the 2 "inner" parts of the buckle ( that hook together) are what adjusts the size of the belt. The weight of the backpack helps keep the belt up in place and is needed due to the weight of the sword bayonnet that was worn with this belt. I know this because I have an original belt of this type in my collection
A nice find!!

If you are refering to the piece at the botom of the picture with the two teeth, it is part of a shoe buckle. I have found several at colonial sites.

DID YOU STEAL MY BUTTON. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT IS THE SAME KIND OF BUTTON I FOUND YESTERDAY. COOL!!!!!JOE in MD
