Finally went digging.

I took a couple of hours this morning to spend hunting relics and enjoying the beautiful morning that God blessed us with. It was cool enough that I could wear a t-shirt and didn't break a sweat! No bugs either! Perfect digging weather but the ground is still like concrete and the digging was hard. I was in awe with the beauty around me and spent a lot of time just marveling at our Lord's creation.

This is a view of what God greeted me with this morning.

I dug a lot of thinga-m-jigs and a few whatzits along with the usual assortment of square nails, scraps of aluminum and the occasional pull tab. I also got a Pontiac insignia, round, like maybe off of a hubcap and an old hammer head. I was looking for a pocket knife a friend of mine had lost and ask if I could try to recover it. He lost it the middle of a large pasture but with so much ground to cover it will take several hunts to find it. He wasn't home today so I'll try to go back when he can help me narrow down the search area.

The only find of note is this item. I'm not sure what it is or how old it could be so if anyone has any info on it, it would be greatly appreciated. It appears to be made of lead and the pin on the back would suggest it is a hat pin?

This is the back.

It was nice to get out and swing a little even if the finds were few. Hopefully, next time I'll find his knife. Thanks for looking.

What a great pic that first one is ! Sure brings the glory of the Lord to us. I think you are right about the hat or lapel pin. They were popular many years ago. Good luck on the next try for the knife. steve in so az

Nice pic Doug!!! Wouldn't mind digging there if I didn't find a thing :) Cool pin though... sure would like to know the history behind that one.

and it looks like part is broke off? I think there are letters on the back too. Can you clean it a little more? I don't think kat pin, the had longer pins, and I can see that the piece that was broke off would be where the point of the pin is? Neat find!

Yeah, part is broken off. I'll try to clean it a little more tomorrow. Next time I go there I'll try to find the broken part. It probably contained the diamonds.:)

...i zoomed in on the pic and you're right, it has a DB on the back.
