Finally using my Vaquero

Arkansas

New member
New to the forum: after owning my Vaquero for almost three years I am finally getting up the nerve to get out and use it. A friend of mine owned a Cibola and suggested a Vaquero for me. I told him something like a Compadre would be fine. Anyway, I got a Vaquero and just became to intimidated to use it. BUT, after reading all of your inspiring stories and the unique things that you have found, plus some helpful videos on U-tube about ground balancing and discrimination information, I

You're going to love it after you get through the "fear factor". Three years umm. . . I would of being out with it detecting in three minutes HA!

Jump right in. There's nothing that complicated or to be afraid of. You'll get the hang of it quickly.

Getting good with a detector takes time. I've had my Deleon for going on 4 years now and I can finally go into a trashy area confident that I'm going to find coins. The thing that bugs me is the detector was always giving me good information, I just didn't know how to listen correctly. PATIENCE!!

The more hours you put in, the better/easier it gets.

If you have any questions, we can pull your leg real good. Just kidding. Have fun... KEN

Is this your first detector? If your truly a novice I might suggest using your vaquero in a less trash area until you get a basic feel of the vaquero language. its one beep has a variety of difference of tone that over time will help u to identify targets in the ground. For example... A coin has a full, round, somewhat loud tone but so do pull tabs u can thumb the discrimination to determine what is a good target and what's not. yes, you will dig trash but less of it after spending more time on your vaquero. those knobs and ground balancing may seem intimidating but just like u the 53 silver video on YouTube makes it easy to learn. I've used my vaquero for 2 weeks now and can now tell the difference of a foil sound (raspy jagged tone) or if the coin is a quarter(loud tone) every time I use my vaquero I learn something new . believe me, when u start pulling coins and good finds out of the ground and finding yourself asking what that next target u dig might be u might be addicted to your vaquero! Happy digging.

This is my first real metal detector. I had one before that had no manufactures name and was bought I think at a garage sale. I used it in Colorado to find old narrow gauge railroad spikes, but that's a pretty big target. I do appreciate all the good advice. - Chris
