I live next to a mudbog and flattrack. For you of those that don't know what I am talking about, here in the south they dig mud pits and see who can drive their 4x4's thru them the fastest. A flattrack is a short dirt dragstrip. They had a nationals race here a couple weeks ago and had about 3,000 attend.
Since I am a good neighbor and don't complain about the noise (thank god they are only once a month) I get to detect there.
They are a carpet of pulltabs and bottlecaps. Them good ole boys do like their beer. I use my ace250 with sniper for close to fences and posts and the F4 for more open areas. I have always used the DD coil and got frustrated with the bottlecaps showing as quarters. I decided to try the concentric and see if it helped. WOW! Not 1 false quarter signal on a bottlecap. I used full disc and notched back in zinc and nickles. Square tabs still ring in but if 33 or 34 it is a tab. A nickel never went over 32. I know I probly disced out rings and such but as a coinshooter the concentric work great. Most coins are close to the surface unless a cow steps on it and drives it deeper. The bog has been here about 3 years so not much time to sink. The deepest coin I have found is about 4 inches.
Now the worst problem is melted beer cans where they burn fires and scatter the ashes when done. Get a lot of nickle signals from them.
I have noticed the TID seems to lock better with the concentric.
One thing I have noticed with the F4 is when you change coils pull the batteries and reinstall them. It might be in my head but if you don't it seems like the F4 is unstable with the coil change. Anyone else notice this?
So far I have pulled about $15 to $20 out and visually sighted earrings and such.
When I have time I will go back with no disc and clean small areas at a time. Might get a ring but for a quick coin hunt the concentric works great.
