Got up at 5 and checked the Forums, yep, right where I left them.!..In the Big Lake by 6:15...dead flat and not too cold, at least once a guy got used to it...perfect! Walked a few miles dragging coil at the edge, looking up on the beach for cooler tracks, towel marks, beer cans and other signs of Hominid activity..jetting in and out of the water at sporadic intervals as the signs dictated...basically hiking along dragging coil right in the riffle at the waters edge..(which happens to be a pretty effective way of covering a lot of ground, reading the beach conditions etc...)

Looking out in the water for for signs of a cut...Finally saw some dark water near some structure. Got in there neck deep and started hitting old metal...got a nickel signal, and up comes an old gold ring! It had a Tigereye stone in it, it was cracked, and the ring was also crushed,? Maybe from the weight of ice from over the years? So into the scrap pile...Found another junk ring in there along with some oldish clad.
14k 3.8 gr...I'll take it, only my second gold ring of the year....representing many many miles of tough duty brothers! So far my worse gold season ever, but hey, the prime time is just fixin to start.. All it takes is one really good blow to open up something...running stock 8.5x11" coil, Pro zero, 35 disc, iron off, sens 3 clicks down from TDC (top dead center)

Air temps and water, just now warming up...might be some freshies a guy can get in Aug/Sept?...sanded in real bad too...hard to find a cut, and correspondingly, gold...been surviving off of hope and clad and empty cans..
Well, sorry again for the crappy pics....hunting for chains hard with the 35 disc....
Mud.

That gold ring makes the day! Nice going.

Way to go, Mud!! That ain't some dainty, girly ring either - that's a man-size model!! :super:

Thanks fellers! Yeah, after such a long dry spell, it sure felt good to see it this am! Me and Tab were up hanging out here drinking coffee and posting at 5am, getting all jacked up on Hopium and ready to hit it, then, he rubbed his magic Genie!, and evidently some of its power came right on through the interwebs to me! Think what I would have found if he would send me that coin? Probably a Brasher!..:heh:

Excellent! How much is that hopium per gram?:smoke: That ring you got is worth today..... US$ 93.82! in gold of course.

Good save Mud. You deserve that one for all your beach hunting efforts this year. Keep at it. You are due for a couple more real quick. Good one! :beers: HH jim tn

Excellent story; I can relate. It's fricken' hard work going through all the water/sand/dirt...but you scopped up a biggin'. Nice!

You done good, Mud. Doubt I will get out this week myself, but I just never know what's gonna come up. Sure want to hit this spot I've had permission over a year now and the garage finally got thru with my car and I can pick it up tomorrow. Too many things on my list, but maybe early Friday I can get a couple hours in. New location and putting the 5 X 8 coil on the At/Pro. This area has lots of rocks.

Went to the dealership and paid for my car yesterday and opened the door and the alarm system started going off and wouldn't stop. Same problem I was having before. Hope it will be ready today. I cut most of my grass yesterday and hope to finish the yard today, but have several errands to run for Mama. Riding that lawn mower nearly 6 hours has me in so much pain, I may not get to go dirt fishing until next week. I can cut my yard in about 4 to 4 1/2 hours if I get the opportunity to cut it every week to 10 days, but with all the rain we've gotten lately, it's been over 14 days and then, it's like a jungle. Then it's about an 7-8 hour job. I almost got thru yesterday, but had to stop and get ready for church. Hope Murphy's law isn't running amuck with the rest of our members, but this too will pass. When I find that nice silver or gold ring or old coin, I will be younger at heart if not in this old body. GL & HH.

Thats some yard!:surprised: If it makes you feel any better, it was 51 degrees this am, and the Lake was maybe 55....after a super cold winter, we are having a very cool summer...I sure hope you get a chance to get in the water and relax with that Pro!:please:

That's chilly, Mud. I'm heading out tomorrow to the river. Can't hit my other spots because the dealership is not thru with my car. I think the electrical problem is more than they can handle and they are just replacing parts until they get it fixed. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but hope I find something worth posting in the morning.

Naw, you aint paranoid, unfortunately thats what 'service guys' do now a days...they just throw all sorts of stuff at the wall and see what sticks.:sadwalk: go knock down some big gold, it will make you and us will feel a lot better!

Hope finally showed herself!! Congratulations on the chunk of gold!

been surviving off of hope and clad and empty cans..

Dang Mud...55 degrees??? The water I hunt is 75 :surprised: And the ambient temp is mid to upper 90"s. So if you hunt here long, you NEED to be in the water just to keep from dying, lol.
And Fongu, I have a large yard too...with about 100 trees in the backyard. When I get thru mowing I always look at myself and go "I sure got a good tan!", then I take a shower and discover, I'm the same old average white guy I was before I started. And I do like you a lot...mow in stages, mixed in with a little weed eating here and there.

dgruff, if I could keep my riding lawnmower at the house without somebody stealing it, it would be no problem to keep my yards up. It's almost 2 acres and when it gets past a certain height, it just takes twice as long to cut it. I have to drive my mower 3/10's of a mile from Mama's house to mine since she has a fence around her yard and some days I don't get down here but an hour or two. I planned to be at the river at daylight this morning, but had a sick Mama to look after and it's almost 4 pm and I just got to the house. I used to have a lot of trees in my yard, but had them all cut down in 2006. Pine trees sure make a mess in a yard, but I sure miss the shade. I get pretty dusty myself and thieves got my weed-eater. Hopefully, I can hit the river Monday. Mama has appointments Tuesday, Thursday & Friday of next week and I have something to take care of Wednesday. I did manage to get a letter off this am to someone who owns a place that used to be a park and hope they say yes. I haven't heard anything from the two letters I mailed about a week ago, but this last place is more important to me than both of those places and the river combined. Lots of 4Th of July and other public days and confederate reunions and I'm just drooling over the possibilities. Lots of people have probably hit this place and I may get a no. If the answer is yes, all the other places I have permission to hunt are on the back burner. It's about 50 acres.

Wow, that sounds like a killer spot! I hope you get a yes and find the mother lode!
And, it sounds like your Mom raised a good son, taking care of her the way you are. Kudos to you, my friend!
