Finally, my little friend came through

After 123 nickels (not all by the Tesoro) snagged my first gold ring this year. Perimeter of a outdoor basketball court. Got a Silver necklace for gravy. Plus $3.99 in change. Outside of that court, nada. Scalped ! Past 3 years averaged one gold ring per 130 nickels. Cutting real close on this one. Ring was small, but 18K

Only 137 nickels to your next! (average of course)

Any advise for detecting near fencing and close to metal equipment?
Had some issues on my last outing getting close to poles and benches with my compadre.
Not sure if you found the ring near a fence, but figured I'd ask.
GREAT FIND!!
Wow. Makes me want to go hunt!! Hope the weather breaks soon!!

smaller the coil the better I would have to say for big iron poles etc.. And turn the detector down.

or do like me and stay away from them  1' is as close as I need to go unless I think I really need to get closer then use the above.

and say hello to my little friend  4" concentric Tesoro coil I don't use it every day but it sure is a bit of fun on the silver µMax

Keep in mind, the coil's field extends just as far above as below the coil. I never would have guessed, try it in an air test.

Yes, a long time ago, I thought I had something under a bench. Never could find it but the detector kept saying it was there!

Got to tell ya. Those pieces of cyclone fencing will trick even a practiced ear. The poles do give off a signal also of course. No matter what coil ur using just get as close to the fence, between the poles as you can. And maybe a good swing out fm fence. Things seem to fly off people more so playing Hoops than Tennis but got to check them courts also . Now I found 5 nickels around that court along with tabs of course. Get an area like that where someone isn't tending to the nickels and tabs, get your antenna up.

Congrats on the Gold ring! Do you happen to know the pull tab to gold ring ratio? Seems to be about 1000 (give or take 2000) tabs for every gold ring:rage:

Easiest way is to lay a coin near one of those poles and notice the following:
(1). As the coil nears the pole, a SUSTAINED tone appears.
(2). As the coil nears the pole AND coin, a quick break in the tone(maybe 2 or more, depending on sweep speed) occurs, causing skips in audio similar to finding 2 coins on edge in the ground.
(3). Practice with sweep speeds until you find the most noticeable skips and you'll always be set.
Thanks, Revier.

here is one pile of Tesoro dig everything rubbish for 1 gold ring. I have not counted how many targets are there though, it averaged about every 8, 4 hr hunts I would find gold in the dirt, that was last winter and I had a pretty good park which is all but cleaned out, I am heading in to a new winter and some different parks so we will see how it goes this year, I also have added a Gold Racer to the arsenal will that help time will tell.

but the fact still remains not many people are willing or have the time to dig crap all day and for me I have to have a screw lose to do what I do, but hey its fun gets me outside and moving and every now and then I get a nice little surprise.

this pile would be average and it depends where you live too has a lot to do with what's in the ground.

one rings worth of trash.

Amberjack - That pile of trash of yours, I would say that's about par. I started counting tabs, but gave up. So last 3 years counted nickels. So 3years I average one gold to 130 nickels.

that's the good news Dancer I don't think many people are out there tonight snipping my tabs, good to know your averages are similar and those tabs are keeping the gold safe for us while we sleep :lmfao: yeah I was just saving the trash till I found gold then taking a photo of the junk.

thanks!!
