Finally made it out!

I have been out twice this year. First time was a couple of weeks back hunting a plowed field. That trip yielded a corroded merc and a worn Jefferson nickel. My best finds that day turned out to be some broken pieces of pottery and a couple of old metal buttons. That tells me that I have narrowed down a spot I have been searching for. The bad news was that I got pretty ill after hunting the plowing as I had a major radiation treatment just two weeks before that. The docs said I was pushing my recovery too hard! Felt pretty good yesterday and made it out for a couple of hours. My wife went along just in case. I hunted a school yard that has been hit pretty hard. The SE was running at 24 in semi-auto and seemed stable. I only ended up with 6 memorial cents,a Jefferson nickel and a clad quarter. These coins were mostly at 6". I don't know why they would be that deep. Also had a great signal but it was some small rusty nails in one hole. I have no doubt that once I get onto this machine that I will make some good finds! I feel good today other than a few aches so I will just hunt a couple of hours at a time and hope to post some good finds like you guys! Also have to give a plug for Ralph at Sun Ray. I had a buddy pick up one of those Whites TRX pinpointers...Wow!! They really work!!

Glad you could get out again. Hopefully your recovery goes well and your finds pick up as well.

Best wishes on your recovery. Those rusty nails can sound good, but they're usually don't give a tight target, that is, the center of the signal seems to move when you try to wiggle the coil at a right angle to the original direction.

Thanks everyone! On those nails it had the crosshair tight to the upper right. I switched to conductive and it showed 00-28. Thought sure as heck it was silver! But it was the nails. I probed the hole after the nails were out and did not get a signal. If the rains ever stop I will go to a local park to see if anything is left. It was a horse track and fairgrounds in the 1870s and has been hit very hard!! I can park close and save my legs for hunting! Great forum here and good luck to all!

Thanks Mike! It is good exercise and therapy! I would bet that I only have 10 hours or less on this machine. I think I have it set correctly and only adjust the sensitivity when I go out. Also use the noise cancel. It sure would be cool to pull an 8" silver dime but I am not that good with it yet. I have a goal of 30 silver coins for the year but do not know if that is possible. If you fellas have any rookie tips that would be great! Thanks again to everyone for the well wishes!! Ted
