Recently I went through the mental process of taking a hard look at what detecting I do most, what detecting brings me the best return, and exactly where my focus should be with regards to how my detectors are specialized. I've gone through the stress of wading with my land detector, lived through fighting floating coils not meant for wading, detectors that were waterproof but couldn't find an anvil (Cobra), and a detector that had me digging so many iron targets that I thought I'd lose my mind (PI)! Also I had a lot of money tied up in toys and detectors and with my current financial situation I knew I needed to unload some stuff! So why not take this opportunity to juggle a few things around and get the detector I've been wanting while still freeing up money?

For the last few years I've read and watched the threads on the Sovereign/Excal and kept thinking I just need to dump all the other stuff that was frustrating me and take the plunge on an Excal. Knowing that it is a Sovereign (basically) I knew I'd be ok on land as long as all the weight folks kept talking about didn't become an issue.

So this week I got my Excal!! WOOHOO!! I bought it off a forum member who hasn't been active in awhile. He had converted it to a fiberglass straight rod, and installed DP waterproof phones on it. It's an Excal 800 that has also been converted to a 1000 using the later model Tornado coil. The FIRST thing I mumbled to myself (yeah, I talk to myself, what about it!) was,

You've got the best/deepest non-PI water unit on the market now. There are a few water detectors that will hit harder on very thin gold chains or tiny little earings, but nothing will match the Excalibur or Sovereign on a deep coin or gold ring...at least in any kind of minerals. As excited for you as I am my prospects at water hunting. It's been years since I hit the water and hunting two mornings this past weekend really "wet" my tastes for doing that again.

Pyledriver,

Seems to be change in the air. Congrats.

I sold my totally awesome E-Trac that has been kicking butt around here and plan on picking up an Excalibur for the beach for this summer. Hated to do it because the E-trac has been great, but, having 2 - high $$$$,$$ machines wasn't going to float at my house. And taking the E-trac into the waves isn't an option. We are going to be down in the SoCal area quite a bit this summer and I thought this was a good chance to see if I could pick up some gold rings and such. Perhaps enough to fund some other purchases.

I concur with your post above. For the most part, there isn't a lot of money in my land finds. There are some exceptions of course with occasional rings (very occasional), rare date coins or an exceptional trade token. It is mostly for fun and adventure. Too, I've been unable to spur any interest in persuading my long time detecting buddy to get a new detector, so it is solo for me all the time. Fun, but not as fun.

Hunting on the beach allows my wife to relax and enjoy being there while I have something to do to keep me busy. It will be fun to do some diving with it as well.

Good luck,

RIch (Utah)

Being the recipient of said machine, it will be most welcome in my stable and get the same care and love that it deserves.:clapping:
Thanks,
Cal

Hi Rich. This is simple, after the summer you sell your goldfinds and get a new E-TRACK !!!

Good luck. Jens.

Hey pyledriver, glad to hear you got the excal. And sounds like you love it. So do I. Isnt it great. I thought the Infinium was good, but it dont compare to the excal as I have found. I loved my old sovereign and had wanted another one. And I got it with the excal. And its waterproof. I have the etrac too but once we get down to that florida coast and the east coast, I figure I might just do what another member mentioned on the thread...swap it out for another excal. Keep on a swinging, guy.

Too bad you couldnt get up here for the hunt a couple weeks back. You missed a good time. We are trying for another one though next month. And if I get the location, we will have a couple old gold mines to detect as well as some old homesteads...that I KNOW, have never had a coil swung on them.
If I get it set up for there you just gotta get up here. And I got the detectors...dont worry about bringing one. You can use one of mine. All you gotta do is get here.

Dennis

Save some Gold for me Guys....Congrads on the New Machine......Joe

Thanks all! Dennis..watch your email!

Happy to hear you made the right decision on getting the Excalibur. Some day you will be out there and hear That tone,(Tone of Gold) the tone we all listen for and never forget. Looking forward to seeing your finds posted here for all to see.
HH:goodnight:

I look forward to hearing that tone as well!! I've heard it only on test targets so far... I did go out yesterday and pull several silver targets though, including a Tiffany and Co. ring! I'm a little unsure about posting finds though because there are a lot of hunters in my area and I noticed after posting some good tot lot finds last year that I suddenly started having problems finding a place that hadn't been picked over!! Of course I'm sure there are way fewer folks with water detectors but....
