Recently I went through the mental process of taking a hard look at what detecting I do most, what detecting brings me the best return, and exactly where my focus should be with regards to how my detectors are specialized. I've gone through the stress of wading with my land detector, lived through fighting floating coils not meant for wading, detectors that were waterproof but couldn't find an anvil (Cobra), and a detector that had me digging so many iron targets that I thought I'd lose my mind (PI)! Also I had a lot of money tied up in toys and detectors and with my current financial situation I knew I needed to unload some stuff! So why not take this opportunity to juggle a few things around and get the detector I've been wanting while still freeing up money?
For the last few years I've read and watched the threads on the Sovereign/Excal and kept thinking I just need to dump all the other stuff that was frustrating me and take the plunge on an Excal. Knowing that it is a Sovereign (basically) I knew I'd be ok on land as long as all the weight folks kept talking about didn't become an issue.
So this week I got my Excal!! WOOHOO!! I bought it off a forum member who hasn't been active in awhile. He had converted it to a fiberglass straight rod, and installed DP waterproof phones on it. It's an Excal 800 that has also been converted to a 1000 using the later model Tornado coil. The FIRST thing I mumbled to myself (yeah, I talk to myself, what about it!) was,
