Finally Happened to Me - Broken Coil Ears / Mounts

First I want to say I love this machine .... It has not let me down a single time that I have used it .....as far as finding something in hunted out spots. The only issue I had with the unit was the overload issue in freezing weather which Makro gladly sent me a replacement coil. The problem i think is that I had gotten into the Makro game so early that the replacement they sent me must have been one of the units with the defective coil ears / mounts. Saturday while using the 11x7 DD coil for about the fifth or sixth time since i got it the right side coil ear snapped off right across the middle. I was hunting in open fields so there was no bumping or anything and I did notice the coil ears are about half the thickness of the ones on the 5x4.5 one I bought,

Hopefully the customer service is still taking care of these issues. I have written Metaldetector.com but have not heard back yet.

This machine has made metal detecting fun for me again..... digging less trash .....finding stuff where I thought there was nothing left and just so simple and easy to use. I knew jumping on board early may cause me to run into some bug/defect issues but so far Makro has been great about quick resolutions. .... hopefully that continues to be the case.

Hello... Makro guarantees to change every single coil that has an ear breakage issue so please do not worry. Have you contacted Makro directly or just the dealer?

Well my posts are all about the finds with this detector and if the ears break I'm sure the company will take care of the problem.

I just sent a mail to Makro as Detector Electronics / Metal Detector.com has yet to reply to my email from Saturday. Hopefully they will be as good about solving this issue as they were about the overload coil issue. I am sure the replacement coil i got ws one of those with the defective ears /coil mounts. I have been very careful with the machine knowing this has been an issue and I was just swinging it in an open field with no obstructions.

As far as finding stuff ....... I LOVE THIS MACHINE .... I dig much less trash and even in a yard we have hunted 50 times several weeks back I hunted it just our of boredom and pulled out 6 pennies (a couple of wheaties) a dime, and two quarters and a bullet flattened into a poker chip.

The last time I hunted with it before this weekend I had my best day in a long time finding a New York button, three eagle buttons and two bullets in a place where over 100 detectorist have been.

I don't need another machine .....just to shake all the bugs out of this one.

Update - Just got a call from Detector Electronics and all I can say is I love those guys and Makro ..... Makro stands behind their product and Detector Electronics / Metaldetector.com stands behind what they sell ..... Both great companies to work with ..... New Coil will be on the way in a day or two as soon as the new shipment clears customs.

Thanks to companies like this ....I enjoy this hobby even more.

Asiandigger - I would get one if I were you ... great easy and treasure finding machine ...a few bugs with a new product but the fact they stand behind their product with quick response ..... I would and will buy more from them. both Makro and Detector Electronics / metaldetector.com !!

It's a means of communication John............ The important thing is Makro and the US dealer has stood behind their product 100%..
Can't ask for anything better than that in my opinion..

Yep i agree.. makro made a believer outta me. I wasnt happy when i was told no warranty on broke 5.5x10 coils..but makro was very quick to change their stance.. great company.. i will buy more from them for sure..

Really? Guess you were living in a cave when the ATPro's first came out...took Garrett awhile to fix the problem with the falsing coils and crappy shafts...but they did just like Makro will...Garrett forum was nothing but a complaint forum for quite awhile...
