Wow.
Well I wanted to do all sorts of practice in the back yard, but as usual time ran out. So off to the beach we went, and she (do you refer to your sov as a she, a he or an it???) worked great.
Thank you to everyone here, I printed several threads and took them with me for reference. All of your info and tips were GREAT !
I took my time and did not try to rush it. After a few hours allot of what I had read here on the forum started to make sense, and off I went. I only got out on the beach for about 3 hours for two days. I found a total of 26 coins several pull tabs, a rusty nail, and several bottle tops. I thought that was great. I found most in the dry sand areas, but did find about four coins in the wet sand at the point were the waves were washing up.
On New Years eve there was a fireworks show at midnight, that we watched from the beach. I took notice of were the largest groups of people were and started there. That was New Years day, around noon I heard all this hooping and hollering, even with the head phones on, and the beach was packed to watch the "Polar Plunge". I was so busy looking down I didn't even hear them all come onto the beach, and there were allot of people.
Anyway next day it rained, but the day after I went back out to the "plunge site" and found more coins. I really was not expecting to find much being winter and all, and all of the coins were common current coins. The thing is I was able to find them!!!!!
The thing I need to work on most before I start to try tuning the machine more myself rather than leaving it on auto, is pinpointing. Boy was I lost on this, I was not sure what part of the Double D coil I was pinpointing with, occasionally I got lucky. That sand scoop thing is great, once I even got two coins at once. The Sov wiggle is also elusive to me, but I developed the sov shake. As I was shaking the sand out of my scoop the shaking action was wiggling the coil on the sand, giving me a signal, so I knew the scoop was empty.
All in all I am very pleased and enjoyed myself a great deal, actually saw a few others out there as well.
Bottom line the Sov worked great, I had a hard time even ground balancing another machine I had previously. I had returned it for the Sov,
Thanks for all your help folks, and sorry for the long post, Gonzo
