HI, all:
Haven't been relic hunting since June with crops in the fields, or sites overgrouwn with grass. Talked with one of my land owners and found one of my haunts with grass chewed down by cattle, so I spent two days hunting this Cavalry Winter camping area. It's been worn out over the years by detectorists. Me included, but I wanted to try out my F 75 to see if it could pull some relics. Being primarily a cavalry camp, it has always been loaded with pistol bullets. Expecially, the .36 cal. teardrops. As you can see, it still can produce some nice finds. The best was a .36 cal. Sharps multiring in extremely fine condition. The picture doesn't do it justice. The F 75 did well. The bullets were all in the five to seven inch depth range. The deeper pistol bullets gave a blended signal of iron and a higher tone discrimination signal. Similar to my MXT with a 12" coil I used previously in this camp. It was great to be out and dig some lead after such a long layoff. I started my settings at DE mode, 2 disc. 90 sinsitivity with 2F tones. After a couple of signals I decided to try JE mode. The signals were slightly better, so I stayed in that mode. I dropped the disc. to 0 and pushed the sens. to 95. It was still running quiet, so that's where I left it for most of the hunt. When I go back next week, I want to compare the discrimination signals against the all metal mode to see how they compare. I really didn't pay attention to the ID meter. If it gave a high tone siganl, or even a partial high tone, I dug it. I dug some square nails, but got some nice relics, as well.
Thanks for looking, and keep on diggin'
