Finally got out...

I went back to the place I hunted the last two times. It's an old home site. No real oldies this time. My first dig was a huge braided sterling silver ring. It must have weighed an ounce or more. The owner and his mother stopped by, and when I showed him the ring he said to his mom, "Remember when I use to make those?" Well, it meant a lot to him, so the last I saw of it was on his finger! They are super nice folks and have never asked for any of the finds. It was good. I ended up with an 1917 merc, about 12 wheats, and a big handful of clad (including a 1992 half).

It was fun to get out again. The time flew by...

Must feel good to get out Robin. Still got a foot to two feet of crusty snow around here. It's going to feel like heaven just digging into the soft ground.

Some time ago I found a 1915 motorcycle registration medallion in the rear of a home built in 1912. Long story short, was able to find out it belonged to a 1912 Harley Davidson registered to a man that grew up at the house. Lucky enough to contact his son who now lives out of state and sent it to him. He was overjoyed and sent me pictures from the family album of his father on that same Harley! Was a real gas to trace the history of one of my finds, and the son and I had lunch the last time he was in my town, I count him as a friend. Best find I ever had. Did a writeup in this forum on it with pics. I think we all have to remember that we are digging history, not just coins. Sharing that history will show people that we are not just hunting thier property for profit. Its not the so called "treasure" it's the hunt, the skill, concentration and perserverance that must be mastered to get the finds. Giving that ring made a friend for you and the hobby.
