Finally got out with my first hunt with my new used Golden uMax.

Had to tune her up first. The tones were completely off. Got it real close. The key thing is to get the 4 tones on the four targets, iron, nickel, zinc, dime with a good notch width setup. I'd like to get just a smidgen more distance between the zinc and the dime but it might be hard to get it better than I do now. Then I put the cleansweep coil on it and checked the ground balance, which was way negative. Found some ground that would approximate a good average and balanced it and I was good to go.

Had a fun four hours clad hunting a nearby park. The grand total take was 8.76 in change, a couple of cheap jewelry items and one almost Yeah baby". That was a nice gold chain that had me going at first as it was a decent size chain but it felt too light in my hand. The 24KGL marking confirmed it as a "almost". But still a nice find. The chain was found hunting in all metal. I'll get a picture up later in the week.

All in all it was nice to get back out with the machine that taught me that tones rule.

I have a Golden and a Cortes. The Goldens 4 tones are a pleasure to work with and in my opinion those tones are almost as good as a meter. Good detector for coins and jewelry up to about 6 inches deep.

A Golden uMax and a Cortes.

I agree jabbo. I went from a GTA1000 to a Golden Sabre. Because of the multi-tones I never missed the digital I.D. Hey you're gonna dig it anyway :wiggle:

I think if Tesoro wanted to improve the DeLeon, all they would need to do is put the 4 tones of the Golden U max in the mix and it would be a brilliant detector, IMHO.

Sure wish it had been 14kt as it would have been over an ounce. I expect to see more Gold Layered jewelry as the price of gold stays high.
