Finally Got In A Hunt Using The Round 8 1/2" Crossfire Coil On The Scorpion :detecting:

I had been searching for a round "CROSSFIRE" coil for the Scorp for over a year. I finally found one, and it looks like it has never been used before. A good indicator for used equipment for sure.

I hunted three different fields with it to see how it compares to the 5" x 10" coil.

I noticed the same pattern in all three fields, which was a softer tone, a little more depth, especially on deeper beaver tail pull tabs and I had to turn back the discrimination knob back one notch to match the same discrimination characteristics of the 5" x 10" coil. This coil would probably be the best of the bunch for relic hunting, as it gets better depth under the same conditions. It still maintains a sensitivity to tiny objects, so it will also be good for the gold fields. I am used to pinpointing off the toe of elliptical, so I tried it with this round coil. I placed a thin piece of black electrical tape on the front of the toe, and it made pin pointing much easier then pinpointing off the center.

I am going to continue using my 5" x 10" coil, as I love the quicker response and the sharper tones. I can pin point much easier off the 5" x 10" also.

The 8 1/2" Crossfire coil did find a nice pile of loot, and also banged hard on a 1968 silver dime....the last year they were produced. One can never have enough coils. :gr

And I also found more Coke Caps for lots of points for free merchandise.

Alright!:bouncy:Nice hunt!:detecting:Good clad haul!:clapping:Congrats on the silver!
That 8.5" is the only Search coil that I'm lacking for the Scorp.:wiggle:I've got that 12.5" for it which is a great relic hunter and still very sensitive to small items.
My favorite is still that 5"x10" DD on any machine.:thumbup:Thanks for sharing!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

Good finds. The dime must be Canadian as the US stopped making silver coins after 1964. With all of the pull tabs you found it should be great for finding rings!
