A new baby really keeps your hands full, but I was able to sneak out Sat. morning to test out a new prototype. I wanted to try a place near home that I knew well, so I choose one of my best local cellar holes. I found this myself taking a different route back to my car on a hike. This picture shows how intact it is even though it may be 1600's. This is just a small root cellar that was under the house...it was actually alot bigger home. Amazingly built, & a joy to hike to even if I don't find anything else here. Past finds have all been from the 1700's, nothing 1800's.......

I like to field test things against each other using little flags to mark signals (many of them "iffy").....once all the flags are used up & in place I take out the other unit or switch coils using another lower rod & set it up similar & note signal strength, number ID, etc....
You can get these at Home Depot & places like that.......

These sites are all loaded with square nails so even if heavily hunted already they are great for testing purposes. I didn't expect to find large cents & stuff, I was here to dig some "iffy" signals in trash & see what happened. Often the "iffy" or deep reading turns out to be a bent square nail or spike, but that's OK......that's how we learn & I figure I'm "cleaning out" the site or "unmasking" some more.....

The big stone in this shot actually was a corner of the house & I had marked 2 signals amid all the iron....
The soil, like most of the county is like powder....it's as dry as I have ever seen which didn't help. We need a real good rain.....
Since it was a long hike & the temps were mid-90's I didn't last long. But, I was able to pull out a couple small pewter buttons from the iron so I think it was a success....
here's a pic of the last one I found & the powder soil in the background......

I had to get back to this little treasure at home........
Emma Kathryn Ladd is now a month old.
