Finally got a machine that works, beachhunter300

Hit the beach for a couple hours to try out my new beachhunter300. I took my Anderson shaft I had for the ex cal. I sent back and converted it to fit the beachhunter. Worked like a charm after drilling a few holes. The new coil will still float to the top if you let it go, however it take no force what so ever to keep it down while hunting unlike the old ones that you had to force down.

This machine does indeed go deep. My back is telling me so. I hit a good signal way down and when I looked in my scoop and took out the clump it appeared that it had a gold colored coin on edge in the clump. I re checked the hole and there was another signal. Dug that then I saw what it was ....keys... darn it..

At least this machine appears to be working great, time will tell. At least I am in the water again hunting and not shipping excalibus back and forth.

It looks like a janitor lost his keys! I can't believe that 12 inch coil would float at all? You would think it was epoxy filled solid?

when i saw "NEW! 300 mm 12 inch spider search coil with near neutral buoyancy" I was wondering how it would be, it's great, but will still float up.

Hi Gang,

Watch the wear on that coil!! If it's like my Infinium Coil it only has enough plastic covering it to keep it water tight. It will not wear well!!! Check my posts on coil repairs at the Infinium Forum for more details.

i am wondering the same how is the coil does it float? Also is the housing sealed or are you able to open it with a screwdriver like the other beachhunter? I had water in my beachhunter after 15min use. Not the battery compartment the housing itsself.

brand new right out of the box. All I did was put in the battery compartment and turned it on. The water did not get into the battery compartment. It was completely dry.

I was just going to sell 2 detectors and buy a BHID300. Maybe I should wait? I think I'll look into different options.

The coil works real nice in the water and the wet sand. It takes no effort for me as the balance and weight work very well together.

I have no complaints with this detector (Older BHID and Super 12" coil installed). It's actually now my favorite do all beach water machine!:whites::usaflag:

Thanks!

Hi, I have the older BHID with the new Super 12" installed. It's the same machine as the 300 but the colors are different.

The unit could still be opened by removing the screws, not sure why it would need to be as it's sealed when assembled from the factory.

If the detector was new out of the box, I guess the gasket wasn't installed correctly at the factory and this caused your problem with the unit.

I only change the batteries after making sure the detector has been rinsed clean of any sand and salt water. If you do this each time you need to open the battery door, you'll have no problems with an improper seal at the gasket.

The batteries last so long on this machine (30 to 40 hrs) I find they never need to be changed on the spot. But if they did, just rinse with fresh water and then dry it before opening it up.

The new coil takes no effort to use with no force needed to hold down and detect in the water. I've heard that White's spent alot of time designing this coil to help address some of the past issues and complaints with the older stock one. I feel they did a very good job with listening and providing new options for this detector!

Thanks!

Hey cupajo, not to worry!!! The Super 12 has a tough coil cover available for a small price. It was the first thing I added before taking it out to play!!!:usaflag:
