Well i didn't have to buy one.....yet!
Found out while talking to my brother-in-law that he had a MD that was bought for him a couple years ago that he didn't use. I asked him...ok i begged...if i could use it. He agreed and just brought it over today.
It's Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300, no manual so thank god for the link in the forum here, and my wife and i have been playing around waving different things in front of the coil to learn the tones, i think she's have more fun than i am.
The sad part is that i have to go to work so i won't be able to really use it yet, but it's here and i have use of it for as long as i like. Brother-in-law said he only used it once to find property markers and has no more interest in MDing, he's more of a motor head.

Once the wife and i start i'll be sure to post our finds. I thank you all for the advice you sent me on what to use, it has opened my mind to the possibilities.

Well I hope you pull a gold ring out soon!!!

The 3300 is a good detector for someone just starting, actually pretty darn good for anyone, as it has good discrimination, good depth and is easy to use:). I bought two of them when Radio Shack first put them on sale a couple of years ago and was surprised at the performance. LInk is about using the first one I bought.
