Finally got a D SLR

Hello, been sometime since I've been here. Finally picked up a digital SLR. Ended up getting a near new Canon D30 at very reasonable price. Looking to get my first lens so I can get a jump on learning how to use it.

Any recommendations? Keeping on budget I've been looking at the Tamron AF 19-35MM f3.5. Would love a Sigma 20MM f1.8 but its a bit pricey right now.

Tamron makes a good lens for the money so you probably won't go wrong with the 19-35 for landscapes and portraits. I'd say you'll eventually outgrow it, wanting some zoom shots. The money you'll save by getting the Tamron, you can apply to a Tamron 70-300 that can be picked up for less than a couple hundred bucks.

Nope, the D30 was the start of Canons entry into the world of offering a Prosumer camera. I think it came out in 2001.

I don't think the 20D is being replaced, I heard the 10D was being discontinued.

Well I pick up my lens tomorrow. Ended up getting a Sigma 20mm F1.8 EX DG. Seems to be a nice solid lens.
