Finally found............

a test video of someone testing targets with a NORMAL sweep speed! I didn't think it was possible! It looked more convincing an more accurate.I saw just about all the videos out there of testing detectors and someone Finally got it right as far as the correct sweep speed. Most of the videos I saw were in the field or on the bench or on the ground or an air test were ALL faster than a speeding bullet and One BIG BLUR!No wonder some others don't find much because they are almost running while detecting! I don't know the name of the person who did the test I saw but I CONGRATULATE him for doing a test so everyone could actually see how the detector really performed at normal sweep speeds! Now maybe my eyes can slow down from watching all the other Speed of Light videos!

Well Ronk, ya gonna keep it a big secret....:) Got a link to it? Finally, a test video where you don't have to be wearing a cervical collar to prevent whiplash.

I didn't save the link to it but I'll see if I can find it a little later.I DO remember the testing was with a Whites detector.I saw so many videos it's hard for me to keep track of all of them. There are also Gobs of Useless videos out there that are a complete waste of time to post or view. They are No help to anyone, not even a Novice. There are some good vids out there that will show the true performance of a detector but not many.Too many air tests that prove little to nothing when all the targets in the ground or sand or water or trash or bad ground and or a mixture of them all.
Everyone won't get the same performance because of location but NO ONE needs to sweep so fast that they Break the shaft in half!
I realize some people live a fast paced lifestyle but Give Me A Break! No Pun intended! I realize in open areas and fields with little trash a person can go a little faster but when they get speeding tickets from detecting too fast..then that's Fast! Ha!

Swinging too fast misses a lot of targets. Detecting isn't a race and proper coil presentation has a lot to do with successful detecting.

Funny you should mention that. I haven't been at it for long but for the first time just today I saw some other MDer's out there. Three of em, and what struck me right off even as a newbie was the way they were swingin their coils. Very fast and with wide pendulum swings with uplifts at the end of each one. No overlapping at all. In fact, it looked like they were missing about a coil length between the spaces of their swings and they were probably 2 to 3 inches off the ground at the lowest point and higher at the end of their swings. So I sat and watched for about 10 minutes. Didn't look like they were having much success. Looked more like they were swinging a scythe. Maybe they've seen some of the videos you're talking about.

What probably happen was they saw so many air test videos that they thought that's where the coins were at.In the air! Or maybe newbies! I am just about sick of air test videos! I think I've seen them all.You seen one then you seen them all.Nothing new out there! If those guys you saw start finding things in the air be sure to let the rest of us know then I wouldn't have to ground balance my detector! Ha!

IMHO the main value in air tests is to compare the basic depth differences in coils or to check the performance of a known detector to see if it's changed. In the ground results, whether from a test garden or just detecting, are really the best measure of a machine.

Maybe the whites was so heavy they had to swing it slow as not to throw out their shoulder?:tesoro::teknetics:

I still believe all the detector manufacturers have the technology to make their heavier detectors lighter. There are so many light ones out there these days that there is NO EXCUSE for the rest of them to continue to make Boat Anchors on a stick. They can still make them sturdy and light IF they wanted to and would get their heads together and just do it! It would probably be a little cheaper for them also.I've had/have detectors that are built tough and are nice and light and these are older machines so with today's technology it ought to be a cinch! There is NO EXCUSE that we can't have good quality on the inside and out. There are some out there that are extremely light, good quality Inside but POOR quality outside.I don't like to repeat myself but I'm going to anyway. There IS NO EXCUSE for poor build quality with all the technology we have these days! I know there will be some that will disagree with me and that's perfectly fine.I still stand behind what I said.

The Manufacturers should have NO EXCUSE for Not Shielding the COILS,CABLES AND THE CONTROL BOX!!!
Taking shortcuts to save a few bucks is one thing but not Shielding? There is NO EXCUSE to Not Shield! Most coils Are shielded but Not Very Many Control Boxes are Shielded, even on High End Detectors! One More Time..There is NO EXCUSE to Not Shield!
