Finally found something worth posting!

I have been reading the forum for a year or so now, but for the most part I have not found anything terribly exciting. Over the last few weeks, I have had a change of luck I suppose and have been finding some nice stuff.

A few days ago I was detecting at a park and found this less than and inch below the surface!

It's the oldest coin I have found so far and it looks to be in pretty good condition!

Way to go KP247! :clapping: That's a great start to a new beginning. You've got a taste of the old coins now and I bet you'll be getting more and more. Keep that determination and it will come. Thanks for posting and congratulations to you. HH, Nancy

Very nice wheat . Congrats that's a great find and just the beginning .Good Job...

Great find, I love wheat pennies, They are usally my best finds of the day, That penny is in great shape, congrads.

Thank you all for the encouragement!

So is it best to leave it as is? I would like to remove the green patina but that's it, and I don't want to devalue the coin.

WTG:thumbup:
That's a $5 - $10 coin

nice find, i got 3 wheats sofar, but nothing that old or as good of condition, hope to see some more !! HH jack

I would wash it with soap and water and leave it as is. :) HH, Nancy

[size=large]i would say don't even wash it. it's great with the patina. don't you watch antique road show. they're always saying it was worth more with the patina on it. just wrap it or contain it as is. but what do i know? jmho

You are not going to wash the patina off unless you use a wire brush, so go ahead and use soap and water, maybe an old toothbrush, and clean it up and enjoy your find.

Great Find!!! Nice coin and worth about $18.00 in the book, but priceless as the oldest and coolest find so far!!! I found a 1934 yesterday in a park that is right downtown and isn't really that old of a park.?.?.?.? Don't add up sometimes, but I love it all just the same!

Yeah, thats a pretty darn nice Wheatie.

I know how you feel, as last year I finally found a 1901 dime, and it was only about an inch deep too.
But man o man, to finally find an oldie.
Congrats to ya..

Good Luck
Dusty

Thanks for the cleaning tips guys! I am excited to have found something significant for a change. I was really getting tired of the trash and clad so this lit the fire again! A few weeks ago I was hunting in Kansas and found an old brass Chauffeurs license from the 40's and a metal Indian chief statuette that looked to have a bullet hole through it. I love this hobby!

Never get "tired" about this hobby. All you have to do is go to another spot and see what all can be found. We would save all the clad from the year's hunts and then take that money and go on free trips, purchase patio furniture, down payment on a 30' SeaRay cabin cruiser.........all kinds of things. Tiring? No way! It will get better and better for you the more you use your machine. Great finds by the way. I'm still looking for my first Chauffeur's license. :detecting: HH, Nancy
