Ive been hunting the old homeplace since i got my tejon digging lots of junk . Old house is gone theres 2 nice large trees in the back yard with nothing under them but 1 47 pennie and i found 2 copper play pennies dated 51 hammered the back yard with no luck them i was wondering around in the pasture 50 yards in front of the house and found this.

Congrats on that great Barber! It looks like it is in fantastic shape! Good hunting for sure, Beale.

Now that's a beauty.

I'd be a happy camper with a find like that.

Thanks for sharing,

If you weren't hooked on this hobby before, I bet you are now. Very nice find.

Congradulations., We all wish that your find is the first of many more...In hunting there are many, and long, dry spells. But, that one Rainbow makes up for all the lean times...Have fun, and enjoy....Cordially Nad

Nice Barber.

I recall I was visiting family once in Florida. Without knowing anywhere else to go, I went to a local park to detect one morning, while everyone else slept.
I hit all the usual spots and was stumped - Now what? Then I noticed something. The park/community center was sitting right next to an oak tree about 15 across - it was huge.
So I went over to it and detected around it. I found several early Wheats, and a V nickle, right beneath the canopy, at only 1" or so. I was pretty stoked, so I worked my way around to the roots of three.
In the crook of the big roots, I got a smooth signal and dug out a pile of dirt. Nothing - the target had come out with the sandy soil.
I poked at the dirt and out came the biggest coin I had seen up til then. It slid down the dirt pile and came to the rest at the bottom.

It was a 1907-O Liberty Head half dollar (Barber). I had hunted all over that park and hadn't found naything to speak of; that is, until I took a look around.
Now I always do a reconnoiter before turning on my detector.

BTW, if you're ever detecting in Orange Park, FL, in the park at the intersection of Kingsley and Hwy 17, well... dont bother with the big oak tree out back of the park center.

Great looking Barber--congrats!!----Those old coins are SO neat to find--every one of 'em is a piece of history.------Del

that is sweet. I havent found an old silver coin yet, or any silver coin for that matter. only old coin I did find was an old 2 cent piece on some property where an old farm used to be.

It's just the opposite for me, I have found lots of old silver, just not many 2 centers. Nice Find, I'd be hunting the area around where you found the 2 center, there has to be more old coins. HH.............Hombre

Do like I do sometimes, take a gas powered weed eater in there and clear a small area at a time and get er done!!!
