And have no idea what it is.....I could use some help on this...

Looks like a Spanish cob to me .
A little more info would help .
WITH OUT SAYING WERE YOU FOUND IT.

Any date or pic of the other side.
Do not clean / be very careful so as not to damage it .
Pre 1700s ? Great find.

Thanks I think its nothing more than a replica.......lol.....Its hard to get a good picture without cleaning it..I found it on a steep bank that has alot of water runoff and it was only an inch in the ground..... ID was 67 and I was useing the F75....Still a good conversation piece to share with friends.....:)

for sure worth having a professional look at it

not sure if its a replica or not.......but a whole LOT of replicas are aged wrong. they have pits and such...........which you dont normally find on the real MCcoy. looks good to me. What kind of dirt was it found in?

red clay

That coin is a Piece of Eight. AFIK, they were only minted in silver. The Spanish did mint copper coins in that era, but they did not have the design of the coin in Cheryl's pictures.

Cheryl what ever it is? I tried to match it to the cob and pieces of eight. It does look close to pieces of eight on one side. Old dead eye here not the greatest for looking at things close up. It is a fine find. Great detecting. Happy Trails.....Z

Cheryl,
Now that's a really, really "reale" cool find; irregardless if it's authentic or not! From the little bit of research I have done, your find looks to be most closely resembled to an Atocha coin. I attached a link that gives a quick run down of the coin history and other resources you can pursue. I agree with GMANLIGHT and 798HAND, don't tell anyone where ya found it and have it checked by an expert.
Mel Fisher found the Atocha shipwreck. Maybe check out his website for info and pics.
