Up until Memorial Day, I've had a drought for 07 with no outstanding coins. I had lots of wheats but so silver, buffs or Indian heads. That changed yesterday.
My brother & I hit an old house and he pulled up a 1954 quarter. The soil was very fine and there were small drainage ditches on the side of the road so it looked like a high water table area. We picked up a lot coins but only three wheats and one silver. There should have been more since the house was probably 90 years old but the sink rate hurt.
The next house was only four blocks away but didn't have any drainage ditches and the soil was more compact. It looked like something out of a Mark Twain novel with an ornate iron fence, a two story house with old world design. We talked to the next door neighbor who told us the house was a hundred and fifty years old. In the first two minutes I pulled up an 1894 Indian head only down about three inches. Ten minutes later my brother got a 1903 Indian in great shape. Later on I pulled up a 54 quarter to match his earlier find. We ended up the day with 63 coins, four of real quality plus about a half dozen wheats. Really a nice way to break the slump I had been in this year.
