Finally, first gold

I headed to a couple of lakes after work and ended up at the same swimming area that got me my first decent silver. Everything in the pics except the newer clad and feather came from a 6' section of the beach, about waist deep, and 10-14" down. It was weird. I would scoop, recheck, and bam, another target. Included is my first gold, albeit it's only 10k, but a classring from 1931. That would make the gal right at 100yrs old. I doubt she is around but I'm going to try and track down any family members as it is inscribed, I just haven't got the loupe out yet to read it. Is this normal for a fresh water lake to condense targets like this or should I peel the top layer off the entire swimming area to find the good stuff...... :lmfao:

Congrats on your finds, really nice haul. Maybe the area you were hunting had a floating dock at one time.

Congrats on the gold...never found a class ring yet...diggin deep..what MD? never hunted lakes, but a dock or float platform just might have been there at one time..hit it again..Good Luck.HH

Sweet!! I have found from experience that a class ring from a deceased person means nothing to the family. Myabe you will have different luck. You have gold and thats great. Love the old standing lib quarter also. You for sure have a beach thats worth going back to.

Yep a dock would make sense. I'll definitely be heading back there, like tomorrow... I was pretty shocked to see a Standing Liberty pop up. I would never have guessed my first one would come out of the water! Thanks for the advice SD, I def. will NOT be paying for shipping if I find the folks.... Bob, I have the CZ20 and was running sens. at 8, disc. at 1. This sucker is deep for an 8" coil! By the time I was done that area was 2' deeper before I filled it back in (I was trying to find a seated coin..). I was skimming off an honest 10-12" at a time. It prob. helped that so many targets were down there, though..

Excellent work! Very nice informative write up...Well done TH! Way to go!:clapping:

first one was the hardest after that they just start coming in

Nice finds there. As far as what you said should you strip a layer off? Hell yes! I have a place by me where there is 3 to 4 inches of sand followed by 4 to 5 inches of gravel followed by hard packed gray clay. I would plow an area with my feet about 10 feet or so in a row as wide as i can kick. Targets would appear where they were non exsistent before I did so. It is good exercise lol. I have found at least 5 gold impacted in the clay. Nothing like seeing that bling in the basket. HH Metalmiester
