Congrats on your first detector, you picked a good one!

Great video John, thanks for sharing

Thanks everyone!! It should be arriving today or tomorrow, I can't wait. My oldest is really excited since I told him he could come with me. Had to explain to him why iron objects aren't worth anything and how the metal detector works :)

Congrats on the new detector, it's a great machine! Did you get a ProPointer? They really cut down on the target recovery time. They say 10 hours to learn and 100 hours to master, so save the really trashy areas until you get comfortable with the machine and have fun!

Sure did :) Also picked up a sand scooper and garret digger/pouch. I also ordered a 1965 CND mint set so I can learn how the older coins sound and I'm gathering a more common coin set as well. I want to practise learning the sounds in my basement before I take it out for a test run. Probably best since we're expecting 5-10 cm of snow tonight so I won't be able to go out any ways.

Hey rotan gather up alot of junk to learn also sine this is what you ll find most of. And dont forget iron as the AT-Pro just loves snitching on it. HH

Sounds like you're doing the right stuff to shorten the learning curve! I found that re-watching the videos after I had some detecting hours in helped a lot, too. Looking forward to seeing your finds!

It arrived! Was testing it out in the basement and it seems to ding on spots on my floor so I'd like to get out and test it. I heard of some people having trouble with their Pros in cold weather. Right now it's 2C/37F - can I detect in this weather or should I wait for a warmer day? Also should I start off using the coil that came with the unit or use the 5x8 right off the bat? Thanks!

Both coils beind DDs they perform the same exceot the stock coil goes a little deeper. Really depends on your style of hunting. Less trash-bigger coil, more trash- smaller coil. Also the smaller may be better in the woods or tight areas. Youll never know how cold is too cold till you try it. Some folks keep thier control box heated. Hope this gets you started and good luck.

That's what your hearing. My basement floor uses fiber glass instead of iron so I can test on the floor ok.

I've only had my PRO out once because of our cold weather here in Wisconsin and it worked just fine at about 35 degrees F.
I put my 5X8 DD on and I sure like it. I will probably use that as my primary coil and use the larger DD coil for areas where I want to cover ground quicker to find the best areas to hunt.
I'm a "trash hunter" and the 5X8 DD will be great for that.

Good Hunting
