finally, a nickel!

I have been in a digging slump for about 4 months. just haven't felt like going out, and when I do wanna go, it's pouring of course. well woke up Sunday morn and grabbed my gear and hit the road. short hunt, maybe a hour and ended up in a small logging town that has some history. my location was triangle park. this place is no bigger than 100' by 100' by 60' maybe. defiantly old ground and bordered by old sidewalks. first target, next to sidewalk got a low 50s and dug down 4 inches. out poped a somewhat shiny nickel! right away I knew what I found. my 1st silver nickel! finally scratch that off the old list. great feeling for just a old 5 cent piece

Nice find. In almost 4 years I have only found one war nickel. When I found it my detector indicated that I had silver under the coil. Dug the target and out came the 1945 war nickel. I was surprised that my machine indicated silver. I checked the nickel with my detector after I got home and it was still giving much higher tones and numbers than one would expect with a nickel. I had a bunch of war nickels that I had picked up back in the early 60's and every one rang up as a nickel with my machine. That one war nickel that I found detecting still puzzles me

this one rang in 54. running at pro with 5x8. I forgot to mention, upon closer look, there are digger scratches across the face of Jefferson. and they are older than what I would've caused. maybe someone targeted this coin in the past and missed it! who knows

Congrats on your nickel. Don't see them that often anymore... Nice find!
