Finally a few good finds this detecting season...

It has been a lousy detecting season so far this year. All the local parks and school grounds have been hit hard over the years and hit hard by me these last 2 and a half years since I got the 3030. So I did some research and found and old fairgrounds in a town about 30 miles away. I went to the town hall to find out who owned the property and the town clerk was just a sweet heart. she not only told me who owned it but called them for permission, which they gave. WhooHoo!!! a fair grounds from the 1880's. Me and my buddy got there and part of it was woods with high shrubs through out. another big portion is corn field and some of it was open. We were psyched. We started finding signals and found we were in gravel. we worked for a couple of hours and gave up. we went back to the town hall and told the clerk and she remembered that they have been taking lots of fill to that area. so no fairgrounds for now... but we will be back in the fall when the corn gets cut. The clerk said we could detect around the town hall and also the little town square. we started around the town hall and the next door neighbor said we could do his yard too. we went over there and right by his back door sidewalk we got the 1876 Seated quarter at about 2 inches no less!!. First old coin of the year!
Not much else there or at the town hall so we went to the park..
it was clean, in so far as bottle caps or pull tabs was concerned and the mineralization was minimal. We got a Merc,1946 Washington , and the walking liberty half!! It really is fun to see the rim of silver in a clod of dirt. it hasn't happened much this year.
The next day we went back and I cranked the sensitivity of the 3030 to the max. we went slow and listened for those tiny squeaks that were anywhere from 12-39 but sometimes flashed a higher number. Then when pinpointing the 3030 would just groan so we know things were deep. We ended up finding 4 more silver dimes one of which was a Barber and another silver Washington quarter. sometimes it seemed we had our arms uo to the elbows before getting the coin out. Nothing like being in a town square and digging deep holes to feel like we were in a fish bowl and wondered if someone would come along and freak out at how deep we were digging, but we did do a super job putting everything back in order again.
we also found the military button. I don't think its too old and I clipped it with the shovel. the other pin is called Open Road Pioneers and made of bronze. Here's a link to see what that's all about. Learn something new everyday, thankfully. :)

Needless to say we will be back to that town again to ask for more permissions from the owners of some of the older homes and of course to try again for the FAIRGROUNDS !!!!!!!
