Been hunting this Gulf Shore Beach since new years day. When I got down here I learned that about 18" of new sand had been added just before I showed up. The cuts that were good to hunt last yr. were sanded in as well. When the waves were low enough we were lucky to get a beep out in the water. For some reason tourism was way down this winter season. Not to mention that the beaches draw the Pro Bowlers of detecting. After fighting threw all this, finally I get a week of Spring Breakers. Things are going to get going now. Wrong The temps so far have been in the low 50's with a chilly wind. Kids are staying off the beach. Makes one feel like Charlie Brown. With tips learned here on this forum and past experience still managed to scratch out close to a 1000 coins [mostly pennies] one Gold earring, and a silver Cross. All in all good enough for me. Theres always next yr.

one of my beaches here will get pumped again in june about 150 blocks of it

Wasnt just sand.... Red Tide has been bad since last summer.... just isnt going away plus we had Sandy. all this keeps people out of the water or off the beach. I had to laugh when you said pro bowler types..... got news for you they live here so its a scrable when things start happening. None the less .... tons of fun.

We may be sanded in here in S.W. Fl. and have Red Tide But the problem is that the sand is not coming from Sea ,but from a rock quarry 50 mile inland.90% of our beaches have had 4 to 6 feet of new Quarry sand added to them . And now starting today one on our pass is going to be clean out and added to the beaches 22.000 yds of sand HaHa fun.!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bummer! Yeah we have some major ice floes jammed up on the beaches...you can go look at grandhavensurfcam for live footage if you want..once they blow out, its usually pretty good in the water, that is if you have the gear to hunt in 32degree h2o...its gonna be a tough year..tougher than last I bet, all the "Pro bowlers" and wannabees  hit it hard...probably just like Fla..I'm gonna do things a little different when it comes to beaches this year. lots of miles and sweeping for little results last year, the year before was not bad. Lake Mich is lower than ever in recorded history. by nearly 5'...so thats something to consider as well...1000 coins off the beach is a ton of sweeping there Dancer!:clapping:

It will get warmer and the kids will reseed the beaches and surf with jewelry and coins. HH.

I don't know whats worse the snow birds that only hunt the beaches and make no deposits or the spring breakers that only leave bottle tops, pull tabs and junk jewelry?

I'm just saying!

The sanding of the beaches is going to end as the money is starting to run out. The government cannot pay for it any more as the taxpayers are tapped out bailing out the banks who gambled away trillions.

The red tide was really bad around Sarasota at Siesta Beach and also to a lesser degree at Desoto. Lido Beach was OK on the days I was there but it was touch and go as there were days that red tide was present. Cough Cough!

The price of gold has dried up the supply of a lot of beach finds as folks have traded in their gold for that funny money called dollars. So less targets to find for sure. There are beaches though that have not been hit for a long time or if ever. The main beaches are hit regularly and so there is less to find. The areas away from the main beaches are where the targets are and have been there for quite a while as very few folks are hunting there.

Time to change tactics and find better places to hunt. Lots of beaches that were popular several years ago are now not and that is where you may have a better chance of finding things.
