FILTER QUESTION

Not that many unless your disabled and need to sweep slow. Or in vegetation that prevents a proper sweep, stubble stalks etc. Low mineralisation + rubbish/iron close together calls for a fast response two filter.
They are cheaper to build but the manufacturer doesn't pass the saving on.

Advantages of four filters...Handles higher mineralisation better, faster sweep speed so more ground can be covered on open sites. Better discrimination of iron.

By the way. Its not really filters its "poles" you have to worry about and how they are arranged. "Filter" just got adopted as that was what it did. Also a "two" filter machines normally would have three or four and a four filter, five or six as they filter they response from the filter.
A "Vari Filter" machine doesn't have variable filters just a fixed amount between the two and four filter machines.

Hey relic hunter. Filters are a part of detector circuits that separate the
ground mineral effects from metals response in the motion discriminate
modes. The particular design controls the efficiency, sweep rate, depth
and recovery time relating to target separation.
Basically the 4 filter circuit is more efficient in high mineral soils but
requires a bit faster sweep speed than the 2 filter type. Most modern
units employ 2 filters since improvements in other circuit sections
achieve the same results as the older 4 filter types and don't require
as fast a search sweep.
