Filter Question

Rob I am sorry I am slow but something you said just now really registered with me. I have been having trouble with my Pin Pointing because I got very little sound out of my VCO on deeper targets. I finally found the VCO adjustment and turned it up to get a good sound out of a 6 or 7" coin while pin pointing. The sound was just too low. You said the All metal was allways deeper because it was unfiltered. OK now I understand the filters. I have been hunting some storeage buildings to play with filters and I now understand slowing down with the 7 and 5 filters to stop the falsing. Now the question and I will just quess at the answer. The 5 Band pass allows much more signal with as little filtering as possible. The Band pass filters through out the Spectrum. The 5 High Band Pass allows less filtering and allows even more High conductor targets to pass or allows less filtering to the Frequency that hits Copper and Silver. Is this correct? Just trying to figure out the difference in the two options.

I have had to use the 7 Band Pass to prevent constant chatter. I could not use the 5. Noticed that I was getting a couple inches more depth over the standard 10 Band pass using the little shooter coil.

I am using my 6X4 shooter coil right now and went over to hunt with my Neighbor who has a cheap Bounty Hunter. He told me he had already hunted most of his yard but was eager to see what I could find with my V3i. I got to hunt very little because I hit so many Wheats and a couple silvers that I was kind of uneasy finding these in his yard, knowing he liked to Metal Detect. He was literally standing on a 1944 Wheat that was 2" or less in the ground. His Detector would pick it up as long as he held the coil just right. The V3i yelled at it every pass.

In neutral ground and a sterile EMI environment, The 5 high pass should provide the most depth with "exacting" swing speed. Now add EMI and/or ground mineralization things change somewhat.

Ground Filters
The ground filters are adjustable between 5 Hz and 12.5 Hz typically the lower filter should be selected for slower sweep speeds. There are also adjustments between band pass and high pass filters. For areas that have high electrical noise interference a band pass filter may be the optimal filter to use as it will reject both the ground effects and the higher frequency electrical noise. If there is very little electrical noise present the high pass filter may be desirable to get a little deeper due to less signal being discarded.
