Figured it out...25 years plus detecting......still learning !!

I have come to the conclusion that having the best detector is owning one of every top brand in the market.
Can't believe it took me this long..LOL...

duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu each and everyone does something just a little better than the other.Depending on where your detecting, and what your looking for. Hahahahahaha LOL:rofl:

I know that's a drastic statement, but read the posts. Everyone says theirs is the best- Finds the most-Is the deepest..Hey we all can't be wrong.

So I guess I am going to have to save up.and buy "em" all. Feel like I wasted 25 years

Elton, one of my favorite sayings is "anything worth having is worth having two (or more) of. I agree that if one goes by many forum posts there are a lot of "best" machines. That said, I've been thinking for quite a while that in spite of all the available bells, whistles and other considerations when all is said and done the bottom line is one must pass the coil of any reasonably capable detector over the target, If it's a goodie, great. If it's junk, well that's part of the game. There are a lot of folks detecting with older, simpler machines that know them well and are finding their share of the goodies and then some.

Elton,
To give myself a reality check I regularly grab one of my older detectors, no visual display, has single tone, manual ground balance. Guess what? I find just as much, or more, with it than with newer "you beaut" machines that have the "latest technology" and everything (almost) that you could want in a detector. Knowing your detector and feeling comfortable (physically, mentally and emotionally):laugh:with it is just as important (or more) than all the hype we get from advertising and other detector users. I dont have the detecting experience that you (and others) have, but I think that anyone who thinks about the hobby will always be learning. Just when we think he have a handle on something, a new experience sends us right back to the drawing boards. (I have a feeling that this could be yet another of your great threads). HH

Sounds like you have a pretty good handle on this detecting stuff . This post was tongue and cheek after reading a lot of posts on the forum. We have some pretty intelligent people here on our great forum. The more you read, the more you see, that every detectors pretty darn good. Your right of course. Know it and do well with it. Me......I'm not taking any more chances..I am getting one of every kind..LOL After 25+ years..I WILL BE READY LOL

:rofl:Good response.......But...... I still want one of each..just in case

It all boils down to the man behind the machine and how well he manages it.
Lke you Elton I want the best of al the brands:rofl:

Elton, what your saying is that instead of only using one tool like a tennis player, we should be like golfers and have a large selection of tools. The problem I see with this is that instead of carrying around a golf bag, we will be driving around in panel vans!

Since I have the best detector going, I'm quite satisfied. HOWEVER, I wouldn't mind having a couple of the other top of the line detectors for back ups.::bouncy: HH jim tn

Yes you do, you just have to put the time in with each machine. There's a minimum of machines you can get by with for the best results. That means a diving/wading machine, a pulse for the wet sand. a twin or multifrequency for where there's just too much iron. A pasture machine, a plough/rolled soil machine for where there's not the solid ground matrix of pasture. Then in Europe at least you need to cope with spoil heaps with 3000 years of iron buried in them looking for super small coins so sensitivity and iron see through is more important than depth.

So thats six minimum which you then increase as the best machines in each class on low mineralisation are not the best for high. Then add the fact that some of the old VLF/TR's on some sites can beat the pants off motion machines.

Finally don't forget the headphones as the best headphones on one model can be really poor on another so as you get up to 10, 12 or more detectors you need three or four sets of headphones.

What I can't agree with is the suggestion that the top of range machines are always the best. Often as good a performance id found one or two models down from the top of each manufacturers price range.

 Wow Brian you grasped this post right away ...LOL If you have one of all then you "MUST" have the best hearing for all

We will be ready no matter what...and only 25 years to figure that out HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Sure is Brian a detector for each shot  and maybe a good range finder so we knew where to use that great detector we bought LOL  Or just a small trailer for hauling it all LOL Hahahahaha:rofl:

Hey Elton----How long you think you're gonna live??? ---Let's see now--you're going to buy 1 each of every top of the line detectors made from all the different manufactures.---OHKEE DOEKEE, but how you gonna know to run which & when?---Are you going to give each detector (and individual coils) equal time on EVERY field & in line with each other?----Boy, I could think up ALOT of questions to ask you on this thread.-----I think it's a great idea!!! ---Too bad I don't have deep enough pockets to try it myself---naw, I'm TOO OLD nohow!! :twodetecting: --------Del
