Field test

Today i have made a test in the garden.
My settings was:
Mode:Relic
Gain:+1/+3
Ground: balanced in ground(65/70) then locked
Discrimination: 0
Trigger: forward
I have put 20cent of Euro in a hole at 15 centimeters of depth, then i have filled up the hole.
The signal(high tone)was not costant and weak and in another direction (90 degrees) the signal was low(iron).
It is normal? What's wrong?
Thanks, Andrea

A recently buried coin will not give the same response as one that has been in the ground for a long time. After being buried for sometime a metal object will acquire a "halo" that "enlarges" the object making it easier for the detector to detect it. Hopefully someone will come along and explain it better.

15 centimeters, thats less than 6 inches (Yes, im in the USA ). Under normal soil conditions your DFX should have seen it.
You say you had your trigger in the forward postion which is the locked, pinpoint / no motion mode ( same as squeezing it ). Are just trying to do a pinpoint ( like after you find a target ), or you actually trying to detect it. ( walking around swinging the coil side to side )?
If you are trying to "detect" put the trigger switch in the middle postion. and move the coil side to side about an inch above the ground and keep the coil level. If you are trying to pinpoint and are having trouble seeing it, you might increase the DC sesitivity a little bit as it is the sensitivity control for ( non-motion, pipointing ).
Hope I am understanding you right..
Thanks
Ryan

You are making the classic mistakes in trying to find a newly buried coin. When you freshly bury a coin you disturb the earth's natural matrix, and you also don't have the halo effect. It's been so long since I used a MXT,I can't remember how pushing the trigger forward changes the relic disc. mode.
A good tip; crank the gain all the way up, and if you have spurious noise, then back the threshold down until you do not hear it. You will notice a big increase in depth.

Andrea, last year I put a quarter in an 8 inch hole, what I did was to pull out a plug as deap as I could and then I dug about another inch for a manium depth of 8", I measured the depth to be sure of depth, This was my yard which has a bunch of iron so I made sure I was not burying the quarter right in iron first which will hender the depth of most detectors.
When I went to find the quarter I could pick it up but if I dident know it was there I would of passed it up as falsing, this year I went back to check the quarter and it now stands out loud and clear, a sure hit but the display reads 80 to 83.
