Field Hunts

It has been slow going in the fields the last week but I did make a few finds. As usual while I hunt the fields I keep my eyes peeled for Indian Artifacts, I found a nice hammer stone Wednesday, nicely pecked with a fine surface. I also found what I first thought was a button but now I believe it may be a saw logo plate it is an intertwined HR. Yesterday found a button which is so crusty I doubt if I will ever make out the image and a first for me a Chinese coin that is from the Ching dynasty dated 1862.

Hi Bell
nice finds!

Great work!

Nice finds! You are the first person I have seen to date that type of Chinese coin. It gives me an idea of the time period the one I found is from that I found at an 1885 house. I like that logo plate too.

Well I can not take credit for it a guy on facebook who is a collector and expert on Chinese and Japanese coinage dated it for me. There are a couple of websites that help in this manner. The problem can be though that subtle differences in style of lettering can throw our concept of the ideogram off. Similar to different type faces in our alphabet because we are familiar with it we can tell what it says.
