Field Finds: Coins and Relics

A few finds from our latest foray into the fields. It has been difficult hunting with the many rains showers we have had, making walking difficult and each boot seems to weigh ten pounds with the mud. Diane and I went out and checked another site in this field and she found a wheat penny and some Sunoco tokens, so obviously we found the house that was still standing until about 10 years ago, I also found a tootsie toy car. Before leaving that day I wandered back over to the site where the old School House once stood, where Paul had found a 1904 Indian previously. I got a solid 12-35 and dug up the crustiest Indian you would want to see. It turned out to be a real keeper though as it is a semi-key date Indian an 1872. Paul and I returned to the field a few days later, I found a couple of nice flat buttons but he made the big finds of the day. First an 1884
V-Nickel and then a couple of buttons. Then I heard him call me over and said he had a seated coin, it was an 1875 Seated Dime very nice shape. One of the buttons I found was a Will Stanley and Nooberz gave me the information that it would be in the 1831 to 1835 time period. The other day went back by myself and made a couple of neat finds, one a piece of a oil lamp and another was a piece of a souvenir pocket knife made by the Frary Company. It was a souvenir of the Gilbert and Sullivan musical made circa 1874 to 1879. The next item was a General Staff Officers coat button, dating from the Indian War Period, 1872 to 1890.
