Hi all,
I finally got around to making a very light weight shaft for my Sov. The old shaft weighed 26oz. The new is only 8oz. A huge difference in the weight. It feels like I am detecting with an XLT again weight wise.
I used two sections of a 20' telescoping fishing pole. Used the sections that came closest to the original Sov shaft diameter, plenty strong enough. I did not make the length adjustable, just made it the length that suited me best. Came up with a unique method of attaching the meter to the top of the handle. I used a piece of wood dowel cut across diagonally. Large hole in the center of the top piece, small hole for a screw in the bottom. Fastened the meter v clip to the dowels with the screw. Tightening the screws cause the two dowels to slide wedging in the handle nice and solid.
I can hunt all day now without fatigue.
