Took the IDX out today for an hour, few relics, old flat button and a New Jersey copper . My eyes are bad but I can see 1790 I think On the bottom of the coin. Needs cleaned better but I’ll leave it for now. I’ve Been pounding this site with top shelf machines, and the old whites still finds the goods.

Nice finds, 1700s makes a great find

I agree about the older machines... The top shelf detectors almost do Too Good of a job separating bum targets... You miss the really good stuff sometimes...

Thats worth a whole year of detecting in one day! 1790, wow!!!!’n

Congratulations on a Very Scarce NJ Copper variety. it is a 1787 (not 1790) Maris 68-w variety. Despite no photo of the reverse, which is usually needed for a complete attribution of variety, the Obverse (Horse head plow side) shows it is a Maris 68 and only one Reverse was used with that die. I have been doing a survey on the Circulation of New Jersey Coppers, found in the ground for almost 20 years. I have published several reports over the years as the database keeps growing. I would love to enter your coin into the database, but since it is a circulation study, I need to know the State and County found in. Your copper, once entered into the database would only be the 8th one of that variety and there are almost 1,300 coins identified by variety in my survey. Thanks in advance for the data.
