Ferrous Sounds

I recently switched to Ferrous Sounds and I think this is a key to getting more comfortable with the Explorer. I am still a very newbie, but when I switched to ferrous sounds and Iron Mask -16 and heard all those low iron tones I kinda lost it for a minute, until I got a good high coin tone in the midst of all that and I sort of thought, "okay, now I'm beginning to understand."
This might be right or wrong, but I let the site itself dictate my search coil sweep speed. If I am sweeping the coil and not getting any signals, or just an occasional low tone, then I don't worry much about the coil speed. But if I get into a lot of iron tones, then I slow down, concentrate on a few good signals and try to ascertain just what kind of site I'm on. If I pull a few targets out that suggest that it's something I'm not interested in , then I move on.
Is this right, or am I screwing up?
I mostly relic hunt, and don't really apply this to parks or public places which have been well searched, but if I searched a home site then I would slow WAAAAY DOWN.

Sounds about right.. you can run in pretty high iron without using the full screen, if you run -14 you will knock out most low tones without missing the good stuff as long as your going slow and cover the ground well.. I also swing right along in clean ground just stopping top check the blips.. A good patern to try is use a medium curser to mock iron mask in the edit mode on the left side and the the same on the lower right up to about half high, that will knock out the tin..
