Ferrous sounds

After several hours messing around with the E-trac Emulator(my etrac is in the mail ),I was finnaly able to get ferrous sounds almsot identical to the SE.I put the volume threshold volume at 23( u wont hear a threshold hum) Resposnse---Pitch hold....Thresholdpitch 30......Sounds ferrous Var --30 Limits --27..You can play around with the var, limits and threshold pitch to tune to your liking. This is probly only good for all metal...which im told u dont use like the SE on the E-trac.Im so used to all Metal ,ferrous sounds its gonna be a hard habbit to break.I saw someone else ask about this too, thought id pass it on to those who havent alrdy figured it out.Im not sure how hunting in all metal with no threshold hum will work....

Hi,
Don't you think that you and I (mines in the mail too) would be better off starting from scratch with this New Machine as a New Machine and not trying to make an Explorer out of it?I have hunted it sounds alot like you. All metal basically and ferrous sounds.I have a copy of "THE BOOK" and have read posts here for months as I stood on the fence and to me the most unhappy guys were the ones that tried to make It an Explorer III.I'm going to forget how my back up SE Pro works and Learn this one as if it were from some other company.
Just my take

Its diffrent in many ways, but you can set it up to your personal liking.I really like to hear all the items in the ground with all metal. After i try out the discrim and im totally convinced im not missing ANY deep items masked by iron ill give it up.I have several test ill be running to help me in my setup..I have never read a book other than the instrction manual thus far to learn my machines..I put in lots of hours and get advice from u guys .I think Lots and lots of time using the machine is the best.this emulator is really neat.I have already been detecting for hours and hours on the etrac and i dont even have it yet LOL..I alrdy have a few set ups rdy to go :)

We will learn it together you and I and post our wins and defeats. For a first book I suggest Edgar Allen Poe The Pit and the Pendulum. Its a hot read.

Sounds good..We can write our own book detailing our trials and errors..Hope you spell better than mee :)

Niagra, I like that you are working on personalizing the E-trac to suit your preferred way to hunt. Before I bought my E-trac I watched a lot of videos of guys using the Explorer. I love that high warbly sound they make when they find silver. Even though I've never owned an Explorer, I wanted my E-trac to sound like that. So I hunt in multi tones with the Threshold Pitch cranked up to 21 to get that sound. It's just personal preference. I don't believe many guys hunt in Ferrous tones with the E-trac, so I'm curious to see how it does for you.

I figured id try it dan,Cant Hurt.all the settings to make the machine sound the way you want really dont effect the detecting ability of the machine i dont feel.So it cant hinder me too much. The sens and the trash density settings Seem like they could effect how well the machine performs tho. Those are the settings ill have to really play with. The way i set up the ferrous sounds tho doesnt sound bad at all.I still like the idea of hearing the iron as well as my good targets in all metal.I guess i feel more secure in trusting my ears and not the machine :)I always felt that was the huge benifit these minelabs had.Having multitones, smartfind and all metal. My Trac will be here tommrow :) and the Fun will begin

The problem with running ferrous tones all metal is the fact that many cut nails and other rusty bits of iron will sound just like silver high tone signals and you will have to use the numbers to tell the difference. It will drive you mad if you are in trashy iron infested sights. You will have continual high tone signals that is beyond belief untill you experience it in the field. This very issue is the one most longtime Explorer users complained about when the E-Trac was first released. You do not get the low iron grunts as you do with the Explorers. However if you run in conductive coin mode you can find deep coins in the middle of solid iron nulls at decent sweep speeds unlike the Explorers. You will find what works best for you and your sights soon enough I trust.I just hate to see you get off on the wrong foot as the emulator is a nice tool to learn the functions on the E-Trac but is a long way from actual field experience,Ray.
PS Not trying to criticize your plan of action just wanted to give you a heads up on the all metal ferrous situation.:detecting:

The cool thing about the ET is it will seperate a hand full of trash and a coin in a coffee cup seems like. I cannot believe what I'm hearing and seeing when it comes to seperation of very very close targets. It really is an eye opener, you'll see shortly. When you get it just cut it on and noise cancel and go hunt for the first couple of times just to see.

Niagra, the e-trac is a pretty new machine to all of us I guess, so I'm only giving my two-cents worth of advice and that may be what it is worth. I've been hunting in exclusively ferrous with very low discrimination due to the high concentration of square nails at depth. I'm blocking out 33 down , as well as the top line minus a couple of the 40's for large silver, and adding no other nail patterns. I was interested in your variability setting of 30. After hunting the same several feet of ground solid with it set at 30, I found I'd find a bit more non-ferrous small targets at 29, then more at 25. Now I've got variability set at 22 and I'm finding it much easier to distinguish iron from non-ferrous signals. In my case the non-ferrous has been nothing of consequence (partial shotgun shells, primers, 22 caps, buck shot,) but any of these signals could conceivably have been small buttons, small cut coins, etc.. Anyway, setting the variability down farther than you might think seems to work in ferrous.

whats the point of a simulator if its isnt identical?????If thats the case its a totally useless tool.Ill have my machine tommrow ,ill post how it goes for me.

Since they straightened the conductive line, it does not jump around like on the Explorer..

You will do well iif you get a handle on the conductive numbers and forget the "Smartscreen" or Digital screen as they call it on the ET. Since the conductive line is straightened the cond number will hold pretty well until extreme depth. The ferrous number can be anywhere from 4 ot 25, (give or take).

So... to take advantage of the improvement on the ET... I run mine on auto+3, ferrous, 2 tones and glance at the screen. I don't miss much with it. I almost always use the relic pattern. If I am hunting coins at a place that isn't extremely trashy I still use the relic pattern and switch to conductive, multi with the threshold tone at 19, 30/30... just learn the conductive numbers, they won't let you down.

I always use the PRO coil, it seperates like a razor. I find things that an F75 cannot give a good ID on.

With the Explorer and it's curved conductive line, the smartscreen was very useful because of the way targets would jump upper left to bottom right, there was info there... not so with the ET. The best info is in the steady conductive number and anything in a range of ferrous numbers.

Plus in ferrous, 2 tones will giv you much mor stability with little or no falsing, 4 tone falses more and multi falses a lot... IMO.
