ferrous signals

I read in a review of the MXT that "In the Relic Mode, if the trigger is in the forward position, the MXT will "blank" out the ferrous targets. So. at a old home site, I set the MXT to Relic, Gain at pre-set, discrim at 3, and trigger forward. What happened was I targeted every square nail for miles around. None were blanked out. I tend to hunt old home sites, "ghost towns", and other areas with a lot of iron trash. Any suggestions on eliminating the low Iron signal? Tanks.

With the trigger fully forward in relic mode my MXT shows all the ferrous in the ground on the screen but does not sound off. Occasionally I will get a grunt. But usually all I get is a high tone on non ferrous finds.

Relic with the trigger forward acts the same as C/J. Anything below your disc setting is not heard. As Titan Man said the screen is not effected by discrimination setting and always reads. Disc only works on the audio alert. If you set the Disc to zero you will get a lower tone for your nails and a higher tone for the non ferrous targets. I think it is easier to pick out deeper good targets which are close to those nails with the disc at zero.

I just throw a nail on the ground and turn the Disc up until the sound breaks up. On my MXT this is between 2 and 3. Rob

Concur with Rob (rcasio44).

Trigger forward is based on your DISC setting. Anything below DISC is rejected and the audio is suppressed, everything above DISC is accepted and you get the audio signal.

EXCEPT - WHEN YOUR DISC IS SET TO 0 (ZERO). Then ferrous is low note and non-ferrous is high note.

Check your settings next time you are at that spot. You either had DISC at 0, or you need to set your DISC higher to eliminate the square nails, but that may also lead to loss of good targets with low VDI's.

I am teaching myself to hunt relic mode trigger forward for all ferrous and non ferrous targets. Most iron targets will grunt with the disc at 0 and non ferrous will chirp at different tones. Usually nails give a double grunt kinda like a coin spill only really close together. If you set the disc just above turning it off you will not miss any target signals and will find many more things. You don't have to dig iron unless you want to.
