I don't have any real tips, as the FeO meter is what it is and I do feel it is a asset. I do pay close attention to it when Fastgrab g/b so as to be over clean ground for a good g/b. I don't "live by it" for determination to dig or not to dig. I have dug some good targets when I had a little feo showing as the result of some small iron type of item and a good target being so close together. If the meter pegs, it is gonna be iron. My observations, anyway. HH jim tn

Thanks Jim and Hi. Good advise on the FeO Meter.

Well, I am guilty of tunnel vision and not looking at the meter. I honestly need to read the manual on it again. I was wondering if there was more to it and if it could be used to help ID a target(s). If there are previous posts that cover this topic feel free to post a link if they are hard to find. I do hunt in trash and would like to eliminate digging it, but who wouldn't? I do look at the confidence meter and numbers, disregarding the FeO meter like it was not even there. There is allot going on the screen and since it is a fast machine, it is almost like sensory overload. Reminds me of when I was learning to drive an auto- so much to observe at first
.
My next trip out, I intend to concentrate on the meter and hope to find some can-slaw to see what the meter tells me amidst jumpy numbers. I will just have to ignore the silver. HH

If only Iron was precious and Aluminum rare!

The only thing the FeO will identify is the amount of magnetic mineralization. Knowing this, though, and watching for it will definately help eliminate some bad targets. Don't let it overwhelm you, though, and don't ignore the silver.:detecting: HH jim tn

Well that is too easy and simple!
It does all that ?

I cannot disagree it can monitor material that can be made magnetic. I will have to go junk'n for some iron this weekend.
Nobody knows where my new 'old' silver spot is, so I will leave the deep ones for another day.

My buddy has another make machine and he cannot ID deep coins like I can. I have to give him a chance because he says the 'next' coil will hit them! Kind of silly lugging a whole duffel bag of coils around! He is my bud and I will give him every chance to every one! We looked at a target together and then I dug it to prove what it was, now he trusts me and will not dig on my signals. What a bulldog! :usmc:

I have noticed that when I get a high tone coin in 3H tones and FESO meter dances up it's always been an iron falsing to high tone. The iron falsing to high tone is a different sounding high tone than a coin.I've heard enough of this to not dig these now.

Thanks Kick,
I will have to check that out. I did some work in the garden but not the coin type this weekend. What I intend to sort out are the false I.D.'s that are a product of rusted iron. Aluminum is another thing. There are so many kinds and types of junk targets out there from beverages that I wish the old pop-tops were still made. This is not just an F75 issue because every machine and detectorist is faced with the same challenges. I just wish I was a bit smarter than the 'dig'm all' group, but it still is the best way to know what treasure awaits you!

I will take note on your observation and see if I can learn something I can bank on with the Iron meter.

Sounds like you have discovered something we can all use.

look what pegged my FeO last week!!

This is some Iron I dig!!
